We had a moment and a late night drink
waiting to come home
just as it came clear from your face

When you left me all the dreams I prayed
I didn't think you'd say
"Can I call you now someday?"

Why did you say that?
You know I believed you
David, why did you never call?

I've still been waiting
because you promised me
you promised me, oh David
I don't, can't you see that I
I just can't stay here
just waiting for the phone to ring,
the phone to ring all day

When I saw you on the street one day
you didn't seem to care
to lift your head to see my face
I am naive to see someone
who doesn't even care,
it's just a mind that slips away

Where did you go,
and I why did I follow?
David,
I spent my week thinking

Have you been calling?
I'd like to wait for you,
to bleed for you
Oh, David
I don't, but can't you see that I
I just can't stay here
just waiting for the phone to ring
the phone to ring all day

This empty pall, can't mute it now
encircling my heart
Hoping to forget someone,
I need a brand new start

David,
I spent my week thinking
Have you been calling?
I'd like to wait for you,
to bleed for you
Oh, David
I don't know what you see, but I
I just can't stay here
just waiting for the phone to ring
the phone to ring all day

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

When We Were Young
Blink-182
This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.
