And how does it feel
To be the name that's on the page
To know that you've joined the rank
Of all of the people I hate

And how does it feel
To be the one that's center stage
To know that your just a face
That started this horrible game

I hear you saying that it hurts so much
You never really thought it through
I'm tying nooses and you know this ones for you

Well this is my song
Saying thanks for nothing
And these are my hopes
Hope they gave you something
And that was my world
Being gone and forgotten
And that was my girl
And she was the best one

You were a friend
To the point of a brother
And we had a dream
That we had built on each other
The moment was scarred
By this flame is forgotten
That was my girl
And she was the best one in the world

And how does it feel
To know you live your life afraid
To know that you choke on shame
For all of the lies that you'll say
How it stopped at a kiss
let's all hit rewind and repeat
let's go back to the start and see
Just how many drinks that it took
For you to forget me and

I hear you saying that it hurts so much
You never really thought it through
I'm tying nooses and you know this ones for you

Well this is my song
Saying thanks for nothing
And these are my hopes
Hope they gave you something
And that was my world
Being gone and forgotten
And that was my girl
And she was the best one

You were a friend
To the point of a brother
And we had a dream
That we had built on each other
The moment was scarred
By this flame is forgotten
That was my girl
And she was the best one in the world

Hh my god, in the world (Woah ah oh)
I hear you saying that it hurts so much
You never really thought it through
I'm tying nooses and you know this ones for you.

And this is my song
Saying thanks for nothing
And these are my hopes
Hope they gave you something
And that was my world
Being gone and forgotten
And that was my girl
And she was the best one

You were a friend
To the point of a brother
And we had a dream
That we had built on each other
The moment was scarred
By this flame is forgotten
That was my girl
And she was the best one in the world

General CommentI love this song. I just bought it last night, so I am unsure about who or what it is about. I love how the very beginning sounds like it might be a sweet, slow song, and then he just speeds it up and starts venting.
I would like to go off of other comments and add a little of my input about Jason vs Derek. I was always a huge fan of this voice in Mayday who had a strong accent and usually sang the most complex and amazing lines. I followed them for a while, loved their EP and their album. Before their latest album came out, I heard how Jason had left the group like year/years before. I was so upset, he was the voice that I was loving. I bought the new cd from Mayday Parade at Hot Topic, and listened to it on the way home. While it wasn't bad, it wasn't anything special. I loved the dual vocals, the long and fun song titles, and the really amazing lines in their songs(ie, and you dropped a note and we changed key, you change yourself and I'll change me, I really didn't see us singing through this. Then you screamed the bridge and I cried the verse and our chorus came out unrehearsed, and you smiled the whole way through it, I guess maybe that's what's worse.) And the very end of Just Say You're Not Into It, where you can here other words in the background, love that! I mean, honestly, who thinks of such great lines like that?
So, needless to say, I was really upset about the turn for the worse that MP had taken. Then.....I heard Jason had a band called Go Radio. I was nervous to listen, because I had such horrible results with the change MP had made. I listened and fell in love! I couldn't decide what songs to get. Eventually I bought I Miss You and Why I'm Home. Omg, I listened to them on repeat. No wonder Mayday Parade doesn't sound good without him, he MADE their band. He made them unique. Jason has this thing about him where the songs that he is in, they aren't just regular songs. They sound like he was really hurting when he was singing them, or he was really happy. It sounds like his diary. The songs sound like these are stories from his life.
Don't get me wrong, I am still a big fan of Mayday's, not as much as I was. I still love their music, some from their newest album, but mostly from their older album and EP. I will always be Team Jason, even if the tension between them is over. I was a huge fan, that's not something you can forget. Now, I'm all about Go Radio. I am super pumped that they just got signed to Fearless(I think). Mayday Parade basically screwed themself and Go Radio is the new MP.
Now Mayday Parade is just like every other punk band. Still good, but nothing compared to what they could have been with Jason.

General CommentI think it's still and ridiculous that people are still going on about Jason and Mayday. I'm pretty sure that they're over it. If not, drive to Tallahassee and ask them and stop speculating.

Did no one think that this could possibly have anything to do with Caity?

General CommentSometimes when i write a song, i make up a scenario in my head and write about that.
my point being is that some songs are written about things that might happen, not exactly about things that have happened or are happening.

of course i know i might be wrong, but i just wonder sometimes if other song writers do the same thing.

Still the meaning of the song is obvious. "That was my girl, and you stole her!"

My OpinionI'm going to start out by saying that I'm tired of all of the Go Radio / Mayday Parade "drama" the fans have created. Now, when I first heard this song, I heard all how it was about Mayday Parade, and it got me thinking that maybe it was. I started really thinking about what this song was about, and I started believing it was about Mayday "stealing" all of Jason's songs, and getting semi-famous with them. Especially the personal songs, "Miserable at Best", etc. How that song was his that he wrote about his girl, and they just took it as their own.

Now, I'm going to say that I was completely wrong. This was what Jason himself said about the song in an interview:

POZ: Can you tell us a little about “Thanks For Nothing”? Would it surprise you if people automatically jumped to conclusions about it representing your departure from Mayday?

Jason: “Thanks For Nothing” is a kind of like a slap-back song. I had a friend of mine, an old friend of mine, do some stuff that he probably shouldn’t have done with a girl that he probably shouldn’t have done it with. I found out at a really inopportune time I guess and we had words and a scuffle and I went back to the studio. Our management keeps a space where we can write and record, it’s just a really great tool. I went over and confronted him, it had to have been at about 6 o’clock in the morning or so and I got back to the studio after everything happened because that’s where I was staying at the time when we were writing. We were home from a tour for a little bit, it was like the day before I left to go out again. So I just went back and wrote. It started out as a piano song. It was really slow, really simple. I don’t know, I did that, then brought it to management and the band and everyone was like, “Wow, this is really great.” We started experimenting with the way we could play it, but that song is one of the more tragic songs on the EP. I think a lot of people probably think it’s about the Mayday thing, but it really has nothing to do with it. [Laughs]

POZ: [Laughs]. Just a few people think that.

Jason: It really has absolutely nothing to do with those guys. I love all of those guys to death. They’re really good people and it sucks that things didn’t work out and we aren’t in the same places all the time, but the fact remains, they are still our friends. We had some disagreements, but they’ve all definitely been worked through. I’ve got nothing but the best for those guys

General CommentAlright, I just have to start by saying that I am madly in love with Go Radio. With that said, I started out believing that this song was about Mayday Parade too, but I recently found I was wrong. A few days ago I got to see Go Radio in concert (they were amazing). The show was really small, very few people were there. So I ended up being able to talk to Jason for a short period of time. Though it started as me gushing to him about how great I thought he was, we ended up talking about Thanks For Nothing and he confirmed that it was not about Mayday. Also, the "drama" between them must be over now because I was also informed that Go Radio and Mayday will be touring together soon, something that probably wouldn't go over well if there was tension between the bands or any of their members.

General CommentWhy would this have anything to do with Mayday? My friend said it was about Derek but speaking as someone who's met the guys from Mayday and got to know them pretty well none of them would ever ever ever steal someones girls.
Also Mayday is NOT "stealing" Jason's songs. Jason wrote Miserable At Best while with Mayday so Mayday owns the song and it's copy write. Jason quit AFTER A Lesson In Romantics for a reason; because he helped write those songs FOR THAT ALBUM. No one is stealing anything okay?
This song is totally about Katie. If you listen to Miserable At Best at all you can tell that someone back AT HOME (so obviously not in Mayday) is trying to steal her away while he is on tour. This song is probably sorta a follow up.
Also no one made Mayday BUT Mayday! Mayday Parade puts out great music with and without Jason. Yes, I did fall in love with Mayday before even A Lesson In Romantics but I still love those guys to death. Jason was not the only member in the band. He went his own direction. You can still hear a little Mayday in song of his songs but it's also a whole new sound and that's what he wanted. They're different bands, you can't expect the same sound. It's like you can't expect Something Cooperate to sound like Jacks Mannequin. It'd be stupid to make the new Project sound like your others.
Derek would NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER STEAL SOMEONE'S GIRL FRIEND.EVER. I CANNOT STRESS HOW STUPID THAT COMMENT WAS. THE KID DOESN'T EVEN HAVE IT IN HIM TO FREAKING EAT MEAT AND THE FACT YOU THINK SO LOWLY OF HIM IS RIDICULOUS. Yes, it wasn't entirely Jason's fault he left the band but if you think Derek would ever steal someone girlfriend you need to get your facts straight. He is literally in the top 10 nicest people I've ever met category along with Alex, Jeremy, Brooks and Jake. NONE OF THEM HAVE IT IN THEM. I seriously cannot state how utterly perplexed I am right now. I mean DEREK? DEREK SANDERS STEALING SOMEONES GIRL FRIEND? No. It just wouldn't happen. Sorry but, You're Dead Wrong.
(Sorry not sorry for the Mayday song reference.)

General CommentAlso Jason was mad because honestly he didn't want to share credit when although he did write a lot of the lyrics Mayday usually writes songs as a group and Derek and Jake wrote most the music. So when they say "this song was written by 'ladila lada and lalal la'" they are including who wrote the music too. If you know anything about Mayday Derek is a much much much better pianist than Jason (Not saying Jason isn't good just that Derek is better) and a bit better a guitar and I've heard knows his way around bass a bit as well and Jason has said it's hard for him to sit down and write out notes. Lyrics come easy but the music does not come as easily. Mayday was fighting about other things like when did help write music he wrote Jake off chorus and most things had to be his way. Also when you live with someone 9 month out of the year you will get tired of them.
