"Alligator" as written by and Tegan Quin Sara Quin....
Sensitive
It's true
Alligator tears cried over you
Over you, over you
Over you, over you

Run around on me
I'd sooner die without
Run around on me
I'll die without

Relentless
Yes, it's true
My motor mouth
It runs over you
Over you, over you
Over you, over you

Run around on me
I'd sooner die without
Run around on me
I'll die without

Over you, over you
Over you, over you
Over you, over you
Over you, over you

Run around on me
I'd sooner die without
Run around on me
I'll die without

No hissy fits, mind my manners
I won't make a scene

Oh, over you
Over you, over you
Over you
Over you, over you

Run around on me
I'd sooner die without
Run around on me
I'll die without

Rattled yes, it's true
Alligator tears spilled over you

Run around on me
I'd sooner die without
Run around on me
I'll die without you
Run around on me
I'd sooner die without
Run around on me
I'll die without

Over you, over you
Over you
Over you, over you
Over you, over you
Over you, over you
Over you
Over you, over you
Over you
Over you, over you

    General Commentonto the meaning..

it's about "making a scene" and being over-emotional and dramatic in your relationship. she's crying fake tears (alligator tears) basically for attention and to make the other person feel guilty, even though she may not really want to do that. she talks about her "motor mouth" running over the other person, in that she's hurting her with her words. she's being obsessive and clinging to the other person as tightly as she can. she's worried that this other person might "run around on" her (maybe she already has?), and saying that she'd die without her.
she's struggling against having these reactions (in the "no hissy fits" line), but she feels out of control and overrun by her feelings.

I can definitely relate to this, I'm crazy in relationships haha

General CommentI agree with TheWrongGirl, plus she was just saying that she THINKS about her whenever she sings it...because she made a connection between her writing that song and what that girls mom told her. It's not ABOUT her.

She did just get out of her marriage, so maybe she wrote the song about that? In an interview, Tegan said that "The Con" was when they were both going through break-ups so it was about that. Now "Sainthood", Tegan is in a new relationship so her songs are all upbeat and optimistic but Sara's songs are..full of anxiety, or something like that. Like she's still getting over her.

ANYWAY, so maybe this song is about her ex? I don't know why her relationship ended, maybe it was infidelity? Who knows! I really like it, though. :)

    oh, oh you

    run around on me
    I'd sooner die without
    run around on me
    I'd die without

    rotten? yes, it's true
    alligator tears spilled over you

    run around on me
    I'd sooner die without
    run around on me
    I'd die without you
    run around on me

    I'd die without

    oh!

    over you, over you
    over you, over you
    over you, over you
    oh you
    over you, over you
    oh you
    over you, over you

I'm not sure about all the over you parts. I'm pretty sure most of the time she's saying over you, because in the clip of Tegan singing from it on Jordansilver.com she says it as "over you". But I think in some particular parts she's definitely saying "Oh you." I changed "cry" to "cried" and "spill" to "spilled". Minor corrections, but important just the same. Oh, and replaced "mind over mouth" with "my motor mouth".
The last part, where you put "wild", I've got no clue. It sounds like "rotten" to me, but that doesn't exactly seem right.
I've listened to this song a thousand times, and this is what I've gotten from it. Kudos on getting the "hissy fits, mind my manners" part, that one has been stumping me for days. Thanks for putting these lyrics up here! Can't wait for Sainthood to drop so we can all be sure!

General CommentI've always thought this song is about unrequited love.

    'run around on me
    I'd sooner die without
    run around on me
    die without'

I think this means that even though the girl treats her badly ('runs around' on her), she'd 'sooner die' than go without her, or at least go without having this person in her life however painful it might be for her feelings to not be reciprocated.

    'relentless,
    yes, it's true
    my motor mouth
    runs over you'

She's crazy about this girl and talks about her endlessly. There's this mess of emotions going on, the love for this person but also the bitterness towards them.

'no hissy fits, mind my manners
    won't make a scene
    oh, over you'

Her fear of losing this girl means she'd rather just bite her tongue and conceal her feelings than risk compromising their existing relationship. Or maybe she's angry at the girl being insensitive/ignorant towards her feelings, but again she'd rather not 'make a scene'. Maybe there's a third girl in the picture and it's a love triangle?

Whatever the case, it's is definitely about feeling bitter and heartbroken. This relationship is all about pure drama and over-exaggerated, perhaps even histrionic emotions (hence 'alligator' tears). The cheating explanation would make sense too, but I related this song to my own experience of unrequited love- the frustration of trying to convey your feelings but also constantly hold them back, and hold back your hurt/anger when the person takes them for granted in some way.

General CommentI think the song is indeed about making a scene and being dramatic while actually not wanting to do that.

I think it's about feeling upset about somebody who "runned around on her." This might have been somebody who "cheated" or someone who is ignoring her.

To me it seems that she felt the relationship or thing was more important and essential to her ( die without) and that the other person should not have runned around on her, but still it was not that serious that it feels justified to be so upset.
no hissy fits, mind my manners
    I won't make a scene

But she still is very upset, so she has to deal with that and also with the fact that she is being dramatic and sensitive.

The song is a way to deal with being upset and this person treating her badly and a way to get " over you ' (it are alligator tears and the last parts of over you's)

General CommentI apologize that these aren't perfected yet, I'm just going from the Rifflandia concert recordings on YouTube, but I think they're close at least! Any input at all is very much appreciated as I'm not 100% on any of the lyrics yet, but we can work on them until the CD comes out =)
