Baby, I sorely miss the vibrant gleam
That's in your eyes
I'll write a song about it
And maybe if the melody's just right
I hope tonight it will find you
It will remind you

But what's holding me back
Is the thought of time we never had
My world's hanging by three words
That I can't bear to say

When you hear this chorus
Do you miss the way the world was spinning for us?
Do you hurt the way that I do?
After all this time, you leave me broken
This song is every word I left unspoken
When you hear this, girl, I'm hoping
That you'll think of us
That you'll think of us

Baby, I told myself that I'll be fine
But it's a lie
I don't wanna talk about it
Memories, oh, they cut like knives
Deep inside, I'm falling
Baby, catch me if you can

What's holding me back
Is the thought of time we never had
My world's hanging by three words
That I can't bear to say

When you hear this chorus
Do you miss the way the world was spinning for us?
Do you hurt the way that I do?
After all this time, you leave me broken
This song is every word I left unspoken
When you hear this, girl, I'm hoping
That you'll think of us

When you hear this chorus
Do you miss the way the world was spinning for us?
Do you hurt the way that I do?
After all this time, you leave me broken
This song is every word I left unspoken
When you hear this, girl, I'm hoping
That you'll think of us
That you'll think of us

Baby, I sorely miss the vibrant gleam
That's in your eyes

I think it's like this: boy loves girl. Girl cheats on/leaves boy. ... And i think the boy is... trying to make the girl maybe feel bad and remember how good they had it, make her feel sorry for leaving or cheating or whatever.

yeah; by far best song on the album. i'm doing a pom routine to it. such a gooood song.

Hmmmm I'm addicted :] Out of some of my favorite bands that have new stuff out [All Time Low, Boys Like Girls, Paramore, We The Kings, Mayday Parade] Mayday Parade definitely kept their old sound the best. And I'm in love with them. :]

    ANYWAYS.. for the song :]

It sounds like he misses the girl desperately. He said it would be okay, and he would be fine, but he's so far from it. But he can't bring himself to tell her "three words That I can't bear to say" because he's been hurt too badly[?]. So, in writing a song about it, he tries to say all the things he couldn't tell her. {That he's so hurt/ asking her if she was ever hurt about it too/ what he thinks and or thought about them etc.} He wants her to think about them.

If I'm way off, let me know, I did my best :]

Baby, I sorely miss the vibrant gleam That's in your eyes I'll write a song about it And maybe if the melody's just right I hope tonight it will find you It will remind you

-He's looking back on a breakup, and he realizes how much he misses her, and hopes she's thinking about him too.

But what's holding me back Is the thought of time we never had My world's hanging by three words That I can't bear to say

-He really wants to say he loves her, but he's afraid of how she'd react. He didn't say I love you to her, so that's why they probably broke up in the first place.

When you hear this chorus Do you miss the way the world was spinning for us? Do you hurt the way that I do? After all this time, you leave me broken This song is every word I left unspoken When you hear this, girl, I'm hoping That you'll think of us That you'll think of us

-He wants to inform her that he's indeed not over her, and hopes she has some guilt and feels sad and broken like he does.

Baby, I told myself that I'll be fine But it's a lie I don't wanna talk about it Memories, oh, they cut like knives Deep inside, I'm falling Baby, catch me if you can

-He kept reassuring himself that'd he'd get over her, but whenever someone brings her up, he gets upset, and the heart ache just repeats itself.

What's holding me back Is the thought of time we never had My world's hanging by three words That I can't bear to say

I love Mayday Parade, although I do miss Jason dearly. This song is great, and I love the title. :) They always come up with such catchy song titles...

This song is by far the best on their new album. Am I the only one that listens to this song solely for the amazing guitar solos sometimes? Good guitar solos are what so many songs today are missing. Mayday Parade hasn't exactly excelled in that department, but this song is great there. I'm seeing them live tomorrow, and I really hope they play this song.

    My Interpretation

okay, i may be wrong, but this is what i think this song is about...

so he really really like this girl, but when he couldn't get himself to say he loved her [My world's hanging by three words/That I can't bear to say], she broke up with him. he thought he could go on, but he couldn't [Baby, I told myself that I'll be fine/But it's a lie]. and it really hurts to think about [the thought of time we never had] [Memories, oh, they cut like knives/Deep inside, I'm falling] and he's hoping for her to come back [Baby, catch me if you can] [This song is every word I left unspoken/When you hear this, girl, I'm hoping/That you'll think of us].

thats my thinking, anyway. some other ppl might have a different idea :)

    I think it means...

Hey I thought you said you loved me, but you hurt me. You said we'd always be together through darkness and dawn, but why am I the only that's hurting. I hope when you here this song that all the memories flood back into your mind. The good and the bad ones. I want you to remember how you crushed me, and I want you to regret it, because what you have wasn't worth losing what we had.

I think it's about a guy missing a girl. For what ever reason they fell apart. He can't say what he wants to say. He wasted to much time holding back what he felt. "My worlds hanging by three words that I cant bear to say"

and the chorus is about the girl missing him everytime she hears the song. The song is him saying what he really cant say.

i love the title in itself. cuz way too many times do people lie by saying "oh i can't live without you" and i love that this is just like, "well then why aren't you dead yet??"
    anywaysss
i agree with everyone, it's simply an unrequited love song

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
