I lost myself
We all fall down
Never the wiser of what I've become
Alone, I stand
A broken man

All I have is one last chance
I won't turn my back on you
Take my hand
Drag me down
If you fall, then I will, too
And I can't save what's left of you

Sing something new
I have nothing left
I can't face the dark without you
There's nothing left to lose
The fight never ends
I can't face the dark without you

Swallow me under and pull me apart
I understand, there's nothing left
Pain so familiar and close to the heart
No more, no less, I won't forget
Come back down, save yourself
I can't find my way to you
And I can't bear to face the truth

Sing something new
I have nothing left
I can't face the dark without you
There's nothing left to lose
The fight never ends
I can't face the dark without you

I wanted to forgive
I'm trying to forget
Don't leave me here again
I am with you forever, the end

Sing something new
I have nothing left
I can't face the dark without you
There's nothing left to lose
The fight never ends
I can't face the dark without you

Holding the hand that holds me down
I forgive you, forget you, the end
Holding the hand that holds me down
I forgive you, forget you, the end

i love this song, the final chapter of dear agony, i cried when i heard this song because i felt this way before, i believe it is either the ending of a relationship through death or she breaks up with him, its about how he loves her so much that he allowed himself to be dragged down just to be with her but now that she is gone he realizes what he has become and now she is gone he cannot go on without her, the fight never ends and he has to face the dark of this world alone now. the reason i believe that she died is this verse

Come back down, save yourself I can't find my way to you And I can't bear to face the truth

this i think is either she saved herself and found a way out either in death or change, but now he has fallen so far down he believes he cannot find his way to her but he cannot face what has happened so he denies it now this is another verse that makes me believe she died

Holding the hand that holds me down I forgive you, forget you, the end

he is holding the hand that dragged him down and now that he is at the end of their relationship he forgives her, he cannot have her leave with that regret and pain, he forgives her for doing that but he wants to forget the pain of letting go therefore the end. This song is wonderful and my favorite of all the songs, thank god for breaking benjamin, without them i would feel alone with these feelings of mine, but listening to these guys makes me know there are others out there with the same feelings, even though i have never met these guys i feel very close to them through their lyrics.

What a moving, emotion, pure, strong, fascinating, powerful song. Too many people there are different meanings behind this song. But too me, I think this is about a man who was with a girl he thought he would spend the rest of his life with. Yet as time goes by, she breaks his heart and destroys his world. But, as the chorus reveals the man is still in love with this person and doesn't want to face the darkness of the world alone. He knows she may not be the "right" person for him, yet it's his true love that can't escape her. He's asking her to fix herself, but if she chooses not to that's fine. As long as she never leaves his side again. He's willing to forgive BUT not forget what she has done. He knows that she is the wrong person for his soul but he knows that she is the only one he will ever love. He truly can't face anything without her.

    My Interpretation

For me it is the memory of someone that you love who left. An internal struggle to forget someone that you need and move on, but you can't. The memory causes you to turn in on yourself and close off the world hence the lines - "I have nothing left" and "Swallow me under and pull me apart" Also it points you would do anything for this person-"Take my hand, drag me down. If you fall then I will too!" The last line is like an exceptance that to only way to forget is to forgive the hurt they unintentionally caused you by leaving-"I forgive, forget you, the end" That how I see it.

I love that the last words on the album are "the end". As Frans said above, the meaning of this song seems pretty straightforward. The ending of a relationship, but obviously filled with a lot of turmoil about actually ending it. It has to be done, but he doesn't want to/think he can let go.

I agree with most of the interpretations about the whole relationship thing. But I don't think she broke his heart. I think it was either mutual or he broke it off with her. Though it still hurt him deeply to do it. This person was obviously very important to him.

During the course of this destructive relationship, I think he became someone he did not ever want himself to be... " I lost myself, we all fall down... Alone I stand a broken man"- He completely lost who he was because he loved this person so much- he changed for her- and just lost who his true identity was in the process. She left him a broken person all together. Lost.

"Take my hand, drag me down, if you fall then I will too…” Because he loved her so much, he would just let her drag him down. I think during the relationship he just didn’t want to believe the effect she was actually having on him- so he would mindlessly follow- though deep down he knew what she was doing to him. “… And I can’t save what’s left of you…” I think in a way he thought he would change her or “save” her. He loved her so much and wanted to be with her so bad- so if he could just change her, or save her from her own destructive behavior…

The chorus in the “sing something new, I have nothing left…” I think everyone can relate to this from a relationship that has hit a rut. Or maybe when one falls out of love. I think he just tried so hard in the relationship, and eventually became apathetic from all the pain that came from it. This is like his final begging to her to do something. For her to take initiative and do something instead of him making all of the effort. But he still hasn’t come to the realization of him needed to leave this relationship- “I can’t face the dark without you”- he knows he needs to leave, but he pushes those thoughts away and ignores them.

The next part basically describes him slowly getting pulled down in the relationship. It’s literally tearing him apart.

“Come back down, save yourself…” He’s being selfless for her. It’s very obvious he loves her- he just wants her to be a better person- to come out strong if it means leaving him broken and lost in the end. As long as she comes out on top. “I can’t find my way to you, and I can’t bear to face the truth…” He knows that he can’t do this anymore- and it’s killing him. He’s panicking.

“I wanted to forgive, I’m trying to forgive…” He’s starting to realize all of the shit and things that really happened to him and his emotions in the relationship. His realization is getting too hard to ignore. “Don’t leave me here again”- it’s almost like he’s been hurt emotionally by her often, and he feels alone- begging her not to do this to him again- leave him in that dark place.

“I am with you, forever, the end”- this is like his last attempt to force those ideas of ending it back again. Like he is trapping himself in the relationship- refusing to give himself a way out.

“Holding the hand that holds me down- I forgive you, forget you, the end” — He finally left.

The really neat thing about Breaking Benjamin is their lyrics have sooo many different meanings. They are for the fans- every listener has something in their lives in which they can relate these songs to. There is no “one” meaning. The songs emotionally connect to the audiences in many different ways. This entire album defines a chapter ending in my life at the moment. It’s beautiful, and has helped me through it. I bet it has done the same for hundreds and thousands of listeners. :)

    My Interpretation

I'm almost certain that Dear Agony is, in chronological order, the story of Ben's struggle with his alcoholic self, whom he refers to as another person throughout the album. This song is from the point of view of his alcoholic self. Ben's alcoholic self is finally submitting, and pleading for Ben to leave it behind in the hopes that it can change. It tells Ben that it forgives and forgets. Now it's holding Ben's hand, the one that holds it down, because it finally has decided to give up the struggle. But that side of Ben will be with him, forever. The end.

One of the best songs from the new album. Noticed some lyrics were wrong though: "The fighting never ends", there isnt an -ing at the end of "fight".... "Things so familiar and close to the heart", he's saying "Pain", not "Things".... One thing I'm not sure of though is when he says "Follow me under". It almost sounds like he's saying "Swallow me under", but I'm not sure about that one.

    My Interpretation

Funnily enough, I don't actually see this as a "bad relationship" as such - at least, it's not bad between them.

I sort of see this as him talking to a girl, and they've both been through hell, and at times it seems like it would have been easier to give up, but he refuses to let go. He doesn't want to face the dark without her, either the worst bit to come, or just the normal darkness that happens in everybody's lives, because she matters too much to him.

But I also see how death can come into it - either she's dying and he wants to die, too, so they won't die separately or alone, or he's dying, and he wants her to stay with him so that he doesn't have to die alone (as in, he wants her to be ther when he dies, not he wants to kill her so they can die together).

Ok people, I do understand how a lot of you can see the song as an interpretation of a love relationship gone wrong, and believe me, music by Breaking Benjamin is MEANT to be slightly cryptic so that it means different things to different people, but if you have ever listened to Ben in one of his interviews, the main whole of the album Dear Agony is based upon his grandfather. This song commemorates his grandfather's death. Once again, music is meant to be seen by the listeners in their own way, which makes it so beautiful, but if you want to know the reason and meaning from the band, there you go.

Troubled relationship but one person loves the other so much and knows what's ahead is a lonely dark sad road and they don't want to face it alone. Don't want to face it without the other person.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

American Town
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran shares a short story of reconnecting with an old flame on “American Town.” The track is about a holiday Ed Sheeran spends with his countrywoman who resides in America. The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
