"Me in You" as written by Eirik Glambek Boe and Erlend Otre Oeye....
Crossroads and given the option
To pass and look back at goals I've missed
Rainbows or burning bridges
If you squint a little more it looks the same

But ooh
There's a little bit of me inside you
Gathering what you've lost
But ooh
There's a little bit of you in everyone
Can never keep a secret

Problem; lines on your face
You smooth them out so no one can tell
put a straight back upon a stage
could (dance dance) hide the tremor in your hand

But ooh
There's a little bit of me inside you
Gathering what you've lost
But ooh
There's a little bit of you in everyone

And I'm watching you now
I see you building the castle with one hand
while tearing down another with the other

And I'm watching you now
I see you building the castle with one hand
while tearing down another with the other

And I'm watching you now
I see you building the castle with one hand
while tearing down another with the other

My InterpretationI COULD be wrong here, but my interpretation is as follows:

First verse talks about the poetic voice in the first person, He is looking back at all the choices he made in life, wondering if he made the right choice. I get the feeling this is a family man who had to choose very early in his life whether or not he was going to dedicate the rest of his life to his family, or to his own personal goals. Maybe he got his girlfriend pregnant too early in life so he had to choose between the two? He legitimately questions whether he made the right choice. In "rainbows or burning bridges" he means that the right and wrong choice all look the same from where he is standing. until he looks at his child.

The chorus is about seeing so much of himself in his child. Maybe that child can carry on his dreams? And that child in him/herself inspires the poetic voice, makes him feel fulfilled already, without the need to complete those personal goals (the father from here on out) The child makes it all worth it.

Second verse is about his girlfriend (possibly wife). It seems like they are still together, and he loves her, but, sees her struggling. She tries to hide it, but she isnt happy with how her life turned out either. She has to hide it to keep things running, but the father can tell from the tremor in her hand that she may want something more from her life.

Again, chorus plays. all about how the child is worth it all.

In the end though, as he looks at the child almost in an admiring way. The poetic voice is watching the child build up and tear down castles. Now this can take one of two interpretations.. A literal one (maybe the kid was actually building sandcastles at the beach, or a toy castle)... but a more metaphorical one where the kid is, just by being alive, building up his fulfillment in life, while tearing down the feeling that his life was lived without fulfilling any of his dreams.

General CommentI believe there's a meaning the artist gave to his song, and we all make interpretations to what the song tells us depending how we feel or think, even if it's not the same as the artist's.
I came here with my own meaning to the lyrics and found other's perspective on the song.
I think about it in first person. Like there's a little bit of me inside this guy and I'm gathering all the pieces inside him. He's literally lost so much on his life and I kind of give him the feeling of getting the pieces together. He is bigger than me, years older and yeah, his hands tremble too, when he gets nervous. Then "I see you building the castle with one hand while tearing down another with the other" i see him trying to build up something (new and better) in this scenario, building something between us, but in order to accomplish that, he must tear down the bridges which take him to the past. I see him trying to get some balance in his life, for he looks back and remembers the goals he has missed.
Again, I associate these lyrics with my life. that's my meaning. What's yours?

General CommentTo me all the song is about existential questions we all share: Am I on the right path? Have I made the right choices? Do I still have possibilities to fulfill a great destiny?
The "you" is general and can apply to anyone. The narrator is quite lost at the moment he speaks.

The 1st verse shows that the narrator is at a moment of reflexion, and take a step back on his life. He has achieved things but maybe not exactly what he had planned. So he could either focus on what he has achieved ( rainbows) or what he hasn't done (burning bridges). It is a matter of interpretation.

Chorus: "there is a little bit of me inside you"--> we all share the same problems. "gathering what you've lost" --> thinking of all the things we had the potential to achieve but have not done.
"There is a little bit of you in everyone" :same idea. "Can never keep a secret": this is my interpretation but I think that it means that in life we all have to explain to our entourage what our plans are, what's the direction we're trying to follow and this has an influence on our actions.

2nd verse: the "you" could be either him as a musician (upon a stage), or a specific person. It could also be anyone, as we are all subject to the judgments of others ( so "the stage" would be a metaphore.
I choose to keep with the general "you".
    "Problem; lines on your face
You smooth them out so no one can tell" --> we're aging but we're still trying to appear young for the others and for ourselves so that we could keep the dreams alive.
"put a straight back upon a stage
could (dance dance) hide the tremor in your hand": when we're having a discussion with others and we have to explain our choices: why we are doing our job, what are we planning to do; we are hiding how insecure we really are by showing a false face of determination and confidence. It is also a method of self-persuasion.

Bridge: "And I'm watching you now
I see you building the castle with one hand
while tearing down another with the other"

To me the "you" is himself. Because he has difficulties achieving his goals, he abandons his projects and make new ones, convincing himself that this time he's gonna succeed.

I'm exactly in that state of mind so it might be a completely false interpretation from me. I'd would like them to have thought of this song that way though.
