There is nothing to me.
There is nothing though there was a time
I had felt elation before all sensation died

I cannot breathe.
I can't deny that I've been feigning for you
every vital sign defied

This means nothing to me.
This means nothing so spare me the lies.
I deny you sympathy just as I have been denied.

I cannot breathe.
I can't deny that I've been faking for you
Every sign of life

I died for the last lie
and the heartbreak for the first time
I could not take till I made you cry

This is what you taught me.
This is what you taught-and I learned well-
To recognize that feeling easily can be disspelled.

Show your wounds, I'm bored with mine.
Nothing is new.
Don't despair, I rarely cry.

Oh my dear, please dry your eyes.
Who could harm you?
To hurt you is to be despised,
As I'd love to.

General CommentOh man, this one's hardcore.

    "There is nothing to me.
There is nothing though there was a time
I had felt elation before all sensation died"

He makes sure at the beginning of the song that he points out very clearly that he is numb. He cannot feel anything any longer. but he then goes back to tell this listener that at once he had an overwhelming and beautiful emotion before he went numb...so..something happened, we guess at this point.

    "I cannot breathe.
I can't deny that I've been feigning for you
    every vital sign defied"

In order to live, you must breathe...which means in the simplest of symbols, breathing=life. Davey is making the statement here that he is not and has not been able to live. Now he is admitting that he has been faking; he has put a mask over and fought his true emotions, which he is about to reveal.

    "This means nothing to me.
This means nothing so spare me the lies.
I deny you sympathy just as I have been denied."

Basically here he is saying that he doesnt want to hear anything from her, none of her sob stories, he doesnt care just like she didn't care (obviously, someone broke his heart)

    ...

"I died for the last lie
and the heartbreak for the first time
I could not take till I made you cry"

Davey is now stating that she hurt him too much...now he wants to show her how he feels. He wants to break her heart like she broke his.

"This is what you taught me.
This is what you taught-and I learned well-
To recognize that feeling easily can be disspelled."

Now he's throwing it back into her face letting her know that he learned it all from her. He isn't stupid anymore and he knows how to turn the tables.
I also feel like "to recognize that feeling easily can be disspelled." means that he knows she loved him, but she was a bitch about it and didn't know what to do with that love...now he isn't denying his love for her, but he is resentful in accepting it. he's pushing it away because he knows what it will get him and he knows he deserves better.

"Show your wounds, I'm bored with mine.
    Nothing is new.
    Don't despair, I rarely cry."

Here I imagine Davey jerking back the sleeves of the girls shirt to reveal cuts. He's tired of being the only one hurting.

"Oh my dear, please dry your eyes.
    Who could harm you?
To hurt you is to be despised,
    As I'd love to. "

He's putting it on thick here. Basically telling her that no one ever hurts that "precious little princess" so she needs to stop whining and acting hurt.
Then he very obviously states the desire to hurt her.
Will he though? The lyrics kind of leave that in the air. I think this, in real life, would be as far as he would go with trying to hurt her.

but who knows. I guess that's left for the listeners interpretation.

In general I love the attitude of the song. A very powerful smack in the face message, however, the lyrics are extremely easy to read into, not like AFI's old stuff. Their old songs were left more to the interpretation and there was more than one answer. Now it's very obviously just the one message.

My InterpretationThere is nothing to me.
There is nothing though there was a time
I had felt elation before all sensation died [Was happy but nowadays is numb and unable to feel much]

    I cannot breathe.
I can't deny that I've been feigning for you
every vital sign defied [I have faked every vital sign, basically i'm dead inside/emotionally and have been faking emotions such as happiness]

    This means nothing to me.
This means nothing so spare me the lies. [Don't lie when you explain yourself because what we have doesn't mean a thing to me anymore, spare the lies]
I deny you sympathy just as I have been denied. [No one sympathises with me, why should i feel sorry for you? You would never do so for me, when you hurt me]

    I cannot breathe.
I can't deny that I've been faking for you
Every sign of life [Dead inside, faking all these signs so i might appear lively, happy and such]

I died for the last lie [The worst lie]
and the heartbreak for the first time
I could not take 'til I made you cry [For once i felt I couldn't handle it until you had cried, feel bad, feel sorrow for this]

This is what you taught me.
This is what you taught and I learned well
To recognize that feeling easily can be dispelled.

Show your wounds, I'm bored with mine. [We're both wounded, hurt inside but nothings new]
    Nothing is new.
    Don't despair, I rarely cry.

Oh my dear, please dry your eyes.
    Who could harm you?
To hurt you is to be despised,
As I'd love to. [I'd hate anyone who harms you, to hurt you is to be despised, and still i would love to hurt you]

General CommentThis is just a wonderful song, musical brilliance. The lyrics are so power and captivating.

    ANYHOO! onto my interpretation:

These lyrics seem to be about a love, unrequited or broken, either way the persona in the lyrics was heavily reliant on this love, and because of some event, he has died (emotionally or spiritually)

    "There is nothing to me.
There is nothing though there was a time
I had felt elation before all sensation died" - this hints more towards the reading of a broken love, where he once felt a love, but then 'died' in some way

    "I cannot breathe.
I can't deny that I've been feigning for you
    every vital sign, defied"

    &&

"I can't deny that I've been faking for you
    Every sign of life"

^ This suggests that the persona has been pretending to be 'okay' so that whom ever broke them doesn't see their pain and/or their lack of life.

"I deny you sympathy just as I have been denied."

^ Suggesting it was a violent/brutal cut off of love, with no sympathy and now the persona is going to do the same.

"I died for the last lie
and the heartbreak for the first time"

^ this part suggests that the love/relationship was based on a lie that inevitably caused heartbreak

"This is what you taught me.
This is what you taught-and I learned well-
To recognize that feeling easily can be dispelled."

^(This is my favorite part) This gives the listener the feeling that the persona has lost/abandoned a sense of humanity by 'dispelling' their emotions because of this love.

"Show your wounds, I'm bored with mine.
    Nothing is new.
    Don't despair, I rarely cry."

^This stanza leads the listener to believe that there has been some sort of reunion between the lovers and now the persona is going to make their ex-lover 'suffer' in a way by uncovering their (the ex-lover's) wounds and hiding their own.

"Oh my dear, please dry your eyes.
    Who could harm you?
To hurt you is to be despised,
    As I'd love to."

In this stanza, the ex-lover is sort of elevated to a place where people worship them, and therefore despise those who hurt them, and the persona will hurt their ex-lover even if means being hated.

TL;DR: This song is basically about a broken lover who hides their pain and lack of emotion (which was killed by the relationship) from their ex, and at some stage when they meet again the persona is willing to hurt their ex-lover in the same manner that they were hurt.

General CommentI have a lot of ideas about this song and how it relates to some of the other songs, but in general I don't think when he says "til I make you cry" that he wants to cause her pain, but he just wants to force the person to reveal that they are not completely stone-hearted, that she actually has feelings and is capable of crying.

General CommentI agree in general with Ahamkara, tough I think something more as a relationship than ended so bad for the main character that he'll try to see what the fuck did he did to deserve that (sine he seemed to faked being well to maintain a good time, but every time they crosses pathes his ex-lover treats him so unfairly) by trying to "ask", not so nicely, hence the "Show your wounds, I'm bored with mine" line and the constant taunting lines giving an impression of "I least I want to see you sad about this, sad as I was"

Hope I explained it well... I'm kinda clumsy with explanations :P
