"Gonna See My Friend" as written by and Eddie Vedder....
Do you want to hear something sad?
We are but victims of desire
I'm gonna shake this day
I wanna shake this day before I retire

I'm gonna see my friend
I'm gonna see my friend, make it go away
I'm sick of everything
I'm gonna see my friend, make it go away

Bueno sera, I won't be long before we all walk off the wire
Well I'm gonna see my friend, I'm gonna see my friend for what I require
Bueno sera I will come in quick
Don't want my flame to get no higher

I'm gonna see my friend
I'm gonna see my friend, make it go away
I'm sick of everything
I'm gonna see my friend, make it go away
I'm gonna see my friend
Gonna see my friend, make it go away

Want to leave it all.
Want to give it up.
Want to see it go once and for all
Want to view it cho'
Want a little bit home
Want to be there

Hard as a statue, black as a tattoo, ?
Gonna take me an astral plane
I'm gonna tunnel through denial
But I'm gonna shake this day
I wanna shake this day before I retire

I'm gonna see my friend
I'm gonna see my friend, make it go away
I'm sick of everything
I'm gonna see my friend, make it go away
I'm gonna see my friend
I'm gonna see my friend, make it go away

General CommentI see it as a song about suicide in a sense similar to Randy Robinson at the end of the film 'The Wrestler'. He's basically disillusioned with life or his life or something that's consumed it and he just wants to go out on his own terms. The friend I think is a friend, family member or hero who has passed, hence 'going to see' them and the suicide theory

General CommentI agree with Pickles. I actually believe the entire album is about battling drug addiction. The beginning of the album has more of a chaotic sound to it bbecomes more peaceful as it goes on.

I think this song is the addict wrestling with the idea of sobering up. He says he want to shake this thing--addiction--but also that he is sick of everything and wants to make it go away, says he wants to give up, and then says he wants an overhau. I think "my friend" is either a metaphor for his drug or a euphemism for his dealer.
