"When Time Is Stolen" as written by and Joan Baez....
(Words and Music by Joan Baez)

The music stopped in my hand
My hand
My hand
Sadly smiled the band
The band
The band
Softly echoes your laughter
Riddled with tears
When time is stolen it flies
It flies
It flies
Lovers leave in disguise
Disguise
Disguise
Weariness hangs like a curtain
Heavy and old
Heavy and cold.

It is said to never look back
Look back
Look back
To shadows you left on the track
The track
The track
Gather your roses and run
The long way around
And if time should ever be right
My love
My love
I'll come to you in the night
My love
My love
But now there is only the sorrow
Parting is near
Parting is here
Parting is here
Parting is here

General CommentThis dying waltz is a bitter sweet memory of short while in which Joan's husband came from prison, burned another calling-up paper and came under arrest again.
Being a star singer married to anti-war activist makes life awfully public, and so this song hosts some leading actors ("lovers") escaping secretly after the show to steal a moment of time for their privacy.
A dusty curtain is a hateful image of any dead-line.
I think if Elena Bonner (the wife of the famous Soviet dissident Andrey Sakharov) knew this song back in 1978 she would welcome Joan Baez more warmly in their Moscow flat. Time had been really hard on both sides of the Cold War front line.
