There's a look on your face I would like to knock out
See the sin in your grin and the shape of your mouth
All I want is to see you in terrible pain
Though we won't ever meet I'll remember your name

Can't believe you were once just like anyone else
Then you grew and became like the devil himself
Pray to God I can think of a kind thing to say
But I don't think I can
So fuck you anyway

You are scum
You are scum
And I hope that you know
That the cracks in your smile are beginning to show
Now the world needs to see that it's time you should go
There's no light in your eyes and your brain is too slow

Can't believe you were once just like anyone else
Then you grew and became like the devil himself
Pray to God I can think of a kind thing to say
But I don't think I can
So fuck you anyway

So fuck you anyway
So fuck you anyway
So fuck you anyway
So fuck you anyway
So fuck you anyway

Bet you sleep like a child with your thumb in your mouth
I could creep up beside, put a gun in your mouth
Makes me sick when I hear all the shit that you say
So much crap coming out, it must take you all day

There's a space kept in hell with your name on the seat
With a spike in the chair just to make it complete
When you look at yourself do you see what I see?
If you do, why the fuck are you looking at me?

Why the fuck are you looking at me?

Why the fuck
Why the fuck are you looking at me? [x4]

There's a time for us all and I think yours has been
Can you please hurry up, 'cause I find you obscene
I can't wait for the day that you're never around
When that face isn't here and you rot underground

Can't believe you were once just like anyone else
Then you grew and became like the devil himself
Pray to God I can think of a kind thing to say
But I don't think I can
So fuck you anyway

So fuck you anyway
So fuck you anyway
So fuck you anyway
So fuck you anyway.

    so no way could it be abotu steve...unless they've been plainning this departure with archive... O;

yeah, i think it's about them person who's singing it

'when you look at yourself do you see what i see, if you do why the fuck are you looking at me'
is a big indication of that

My InterpretationI hear this very clearly as a song about self-hate/depression. But my interpretation is slightly different in the point of view aspect. I see it as a personalization of depression, as if the disease is actually "singing" this to the affected person.

There's a look on your face I would like to knock out
See the sin in your grin and the shape of your mouth
(Looking in the mirror, and hating what you see/picking out all your flaws.)

All I want is to see you in terrible pain
    (Self-harm? Self-punishment of some sort?)

Though we won't ever meet I'll remember your name
(You don't "meet" depression, per se. This is almost a depersonalization/MPD thing, in my mind.)

Can't believe you were once just like anyone else
Then you grew and became like the devil himself
(How you can't believe your life ended up like it did; depression convinces you that you've become this worthless, evil being, out of what was once an innocent child.)

Pray to God I can think of a kind thing to say
    But I don't think I can
    So fuck you anyway
(Again, obvious self-bullying. Can't think of anything good or worthy about yourself.)

    You are scum
    You are scum
(Scum... yeah this one's pretty self explanitory.)

And I hope that you know
That the cracks in your smile are beginning to show
(Depression convinces you that you're not doing a good enough job with your "fake smile", AKA hiding your illness. You're going to be found out.)

Now the world needs to see that it's time you should go
There's no light in your eyes and your brain is too slow
(Pushing you towards suicide; hinting that the world would be better off without you. And then, more self-hate. Validating the option of suicide.)

Bet you sleep like a child with your thumb in your mouth
(Suggesting undesirable weakness. "You're not strong enough to do this")

I could creep up beside, put a gun in your mouth
(At night, you're most vulnerable. Depression could "creep up" on you and cause you to make a spur of the moment decision.)

Makes me sick when I hear all the shit that you say
So much crap coming out, it must take you all day
(Paranoia about how you act; everything you say is wrong or stupid. You're too stupid to continue living, etc.)

There's a space kept in hell with your name on the seat
With a spike in the chair just to make it complete
(Depression makes you feel like you're evil and worth nothing... like you deserve the worst. Hell would be that "worst", and therefore it would be best to commit suicide because then you would be sent to hell and put in the place you belong.)

When you look at yourself do you see what I see?
If you do, why the fuck are you looking at me?
(This one took me a while to figure out. I think this is the point where depression becomes like a physical being. It's separate from the person. Here, I think it is describing how the person looks at himself in the mirror, and in the back of his mind, knows that is not his fault, and finds it in himself to blame it on depression. And depression retaliates and says "Why are you looking at me? Is it me that you see in the mirror? No. This is all you.")

There's a time for us all and I think yours has been
(You've outlived your time on this earth. You're no longer of any use.)

Can you please hurry up, 'cause I find you obscene
    (More obvious self-hate)

I can't wait for the day that you're never around
When that face isn't here and you rot underground
(This is the point where death becomes appealing. More so than life. And the idea of "rotting underground" becomes comforting.)

*This is based largely on my own experiences with depression. I'm not saying this is what it's like for everyone, nor am I saying I am correct in my interpretation. I'm a 16 year old girl for heaven's sake, I'm no genius. This is just MY interpretation. My personal thoughts, and whatnot.*

My OpinionI think it's some sort of message to steve hewitt.but I want to think it's a message to brian himself,to the person that he has become, with the new album.

General CommentOMG, i've registered on purpose just to say this, when you listen to a song don't listen it in a personal way if you want to know it's real meaning.
I believe this is a hate song about GOD, it's quite clear.
"See the sin in your grin"
"Though we won't ever meet I'll remember your name"
"Pray to God I can think of a kind thing to say but I don't think I can"
"The cracks in your smile are beginning to show now the world needs to see that it's time you should go"
"There's a time for us all and I think yours has been"
"I can't wait for the day that you're never around"
"Why the fuck are you looking at me?"
"you grew and became like the devil himself"

He have some elements here that are very clear: sins, god, devil, is someone that all world needs to see that is time he should go, growing to something bigger, always around, always looking... xD

    General CommentOh, dear Lord...
Only just listened to this and I really can't stop.
I agree with the self loathing idea. Seems to make sense!

General Commentat first I thought maybe this song was about hitler or polpot, but then I realised they're not heinous enough to warrant such a song and so I've come to the conclusion it is probably about iain duncan smith, george osborne, michael gove, tory blair, david cameron, margaret thatcher, george bush (jr and/or snr), the "red shields", billie (& (s)melly) gates, the rockefellers, goldman sachs', kuhn loebs', warburgs', lazards', israel moses seifs, stillmans, schiffs, add to this if you know more than me, I implore you !

General CommentI was very happy to find out that my favourite band covered Archive, I'm a big fan of them... Placebo usually do great covers, but this one is simply bad. Archive's original version is waaayyyyy better. I was a bit disappointed. :(

    Go see the interpretation here
