Who wants to know?
All that is gold, is rusted
No one will know
Seasons cease, to change, and

How far we've gone
How far we're going
So here and the now
And the love for the sound
Are the moments that keep us moving

Waves crash along
Battered lonely lighthouse
Tomorrow she's gone
And if not, some, they somehow
Are, these, hands, always

Well this side of, mortality is
Scaring, me, to death
To death

Don't think about it at all
Just keep your head low
Don't think about it at all

Soldier on
Soldier on
Keep your heart, close to the ground
Soldier on
Soldier on
Keep your heart, close, to the ground

Don't think about it at all
Just keep your head low
Don't think about it at all

Yeah
Will you take me tonight
Yeah
Will you take me tonight
Yeah
Will you take me tonight

Yeah
Will you take me tonight
Tonight

Soldier on
Soldier on
Keep your heart, close to the ground

    Song Meaning

the too long didn't read version

Things in life change regardless of what you do. It is written "all that is gold is rusted", and even though literally Gold cannot rust, when it comes to the fragility of human existence, there is no such thing as a "Gold" moment, because (as stated earlier) everything will change.

Sometimes a song comes along with tones and mysterious lyrics that lends dignity to an otherwise train wreck of a situation with a loved one.

Well, I don't think it's about LOVE. I think this is all about LIFE.

I think the song's meaning is all about the inevitability of death and about us, facing it.

Death, is inevitable: "tomorrow she's gone", gone stands for dead. "all that is gold is rusting", life perishing. "will you take me tonigh?", he's talking directly to Death (personification), asking if she's gonna come tonight, to take (kill) him.

What can we do? "soldier on", no explanation required here. "keep your heart close to the ground", I guess anyone has to find his own answer here.

    Wonderful song ;)

    My Interpretation

When something bad happens to you you've got to get on with it and move on ('don't think about it all and keep your head low'). It leaves you crippled and pathetic ('Will you take me tonight?') But you just have to keep going ('Soldier On')

I always get this picture of WW2, someone's comrade has died leaving him alone, he has to keep going or he'll die too. He's ducking and crawling through trenches, dodging gunfire, just thinking about the picture of the girl in his pocket. She's waiting for him at home, where he can forget this nightmare.

My favourite line is 'Well this side of mortality is scaring me to death'. I'm not 100% decided on what it means but I'm thinking it's a suggestion that there is this flipside to life, somewhere dark and horrible.

    My Interpretation

I take it as he was seriously in love with a girl, but she broke his heart. All that is gold is rusted. Nothing good remains of his love of her. They've come so far, but are going no where. HE is the battered lonely lighthouse. Tomorrow she's gone. and the mortality he's speaking of is how he feels dead without her, and it scares him so much. He doesn't want to think about it, because he wants to be able to move on and be free again...free of the pain. He has to keep going, and "soldier on". He asks her to take him, because he can't resist, but he must. He must stop thinking about her, and soldier on.

    Unbelievable song...3:50 is just amaizng.

Agree with pretty much everything said so far. I think "keep your heart close to the ground" is about hiding his feelings and trying not to get hurt.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
