"I Will Be Light" as written by David Martin Kahne, Rosenstein Ephraim, Trevor Hall and Matthew Miller....
Sit back, in these days
Remember my ways
Oh, will I ever get out of my cage?
Yes, I am a slave

Searching for some freedom
Searching for some freedom

So intend to sing them
Songs to spark memory
What is a man with no history?
Who am I?
Where am I?
What is this place?
We're just spinning in space

I will be light
I will be light
I will be light
I will be light, oh mama, light some

Time will continue without you
So in the end
It's not about you
But what did you do?
Who do you love besides you?
Beside you, many died in the name of vanity
Many die, in their mind's eye, for justice
We die for you
And still do, so I say to you
This is nothing new

I will be light, oh mama
I will be light
I will be light, hey mama
I will be light

One tiny moment in time
For life to shine, to shine
Burn away the darkness, you got

One tiny moment in time
For life to shine, to shine
Burn away the darkness, you got one tiny moment in time
For life to shine, to shine
So burn away the darkness, you got one tiny moment in time
For life to shine, to shine
So burn away the darkness, said one tiny moment in time

I will be light
I will be light, now, oh mama
I will be light, light some

General CommentThis is an amazing song, with lot's of powerful lyrics. Although if any one could explain, the meaning of the «We die for you and still do» line. Who's dying for us? Is this a historical reference to the persecuted Jewish people or a reference a New Testament reference?

My InterpretationMatisyahu created a powerful masterpiece with this song. While this song is about God and his want for us to serve him by glorifying His world and His creation, this song can also be taken in a secular viewpoint on an altruistic way of life.

He refers to this world of darkness, corrupt by people with no decency, no morals. When he says, "I will be light," he means he will bring good into this world.

Like "King Without A Crown" Matisyahu mentions that we are slaves to ourselves. One does what they think will please themselves. One puts higher priority on themselves then to the people around oneself

"Time will continue without you, so in the end, it's not about you."

The song stresses this and its so true. Why waste time worrying about ourselves? What good does that bring the world? None.

"You've got one tiny moment in time, for life, to shine, to burn away the darkness."

When I first took in the true meaning of this song, I was hit with guilt. The meaning of life is not to take care of yourself. The meaning of life, is to spread [God's] light.
