I come disguise I was hypnotized
Lost a track, struggled back
I wanted easy stuff to please me
Something in the dark began to squeeze me
Seen it, there, then there in the mirror
Totally focused, no hocus pocus
Dare I give in to this thing gripping my skin
To win, thinking how to
As

The lights of a car go by in a stream
Seems like I stand pretty much unseen
But I open my eyes and beams
Come out

Gimme, gimme, symphonies
Gimme more than the life I see
Score adds up
Angels play
Let my loneliness get blown away

Gimme, gimme, symphonies
Gimme more than the life I see

I lie down in the dust just under your eye
A scrap of paper, thin as vapor
Filling my clothes like smoke
A couple of the wires in my heart are broke
I throw, I miss, something, nothing
But dreams, schemes, moments wasted
Taste I tasted
Fate I'm fated
Re-edited again then copy pasted
As

The lights of a car go by in a stream
Seems like I stand pretty much unseen
But I open my eyes and beams
Come out

Gimme, gimme, symphonies
Gimme more than the life I see
Score adds up
Angels play
Let my loneliness get blown away

Gimme, gimme, symphonies
Gimme more than the life I see

When I wanna quit, I suffocate it
I chew bubblicious, stress repetitious
Vicious, I'm one outsider
Up above the streets on the DCY-er
Higher, fire in my guts
In a rut, but what I've got
Is in no can, no other human
But I do get lonely, scared I'm phony
As

The lights of a car go by in a stream
Seems like I stand pretty much unseen
But I open my eyes and beams
Come out

Gimme, gimme, symphonies
Gimme more than the life I see
Score adds up
Angels play
Let my loneliness get blown away

Gimme, gimme, symphonies
Gimme more than the life I see

Gimme, gimme symphonies
Gimme more than the life I see

Gimme, gimme symphonies
Gimme more than the life I see

    My Interpretation

I think this song is about wanting more out of life, which is pretty much evident from the lines

"Gimme, gimme symphonies Gimme more than the life I see"

He wants to find meaning and purpose, direction - something he's sacrifised in return for the "easy stuff" that pleases him. The world passes him by, and he's just another face in the crowd (standing pretty much unseen) until he decides to be true to himself, open his eyes to the world and what he's become.

The video to this song (check it out on YouTube), too, I think says he's living so many different lives but none of them are real.

I agree it's about wanting more out of life. The DJ on radio 104.5 philadelphia stated If you like "Bittersweet Symphony" you'd like this. Not really alike but it's a good song.

    My Opinion

i like this song a lot. i think he feels like hes beeing a little ignored by others and wats to be less ignored ("The lights of a car go by in the stream Seems like I stand pretty much unseen") as danninj said probably bored in life and wants something worth while to do. (get a hobey no offense)

I'm pretty sure it's "DC Wire" not DCY-er, and Score, Rise up, not adds up.

Watch the video and you'll see where I get these corrections from.

I believe it goes "Filling my clothes like smoke A couple of the wires in my heart are broke I throw, I miss, something, nothing"

    My Interpretation

I think he has become one of the 11 11 guides for others, something that is spreading like wildfire in this world. He is no longer a sleep, his eyes are open. It's a big change from his past music. He has purpose to the words a new direction with a meaning. Some will get it, other won't till later or maybe never, no one can make you see.

    I think it's:

I chew bubblicious, stress repetitious Vicious, I'm one outsider

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
