"One Day Too Late" as written by Brian Howes and John Cooper....
Tick tock hear the clock countdown
Wish the minute hand could be rewound
So much to do and so much I need to say
Will tomorrow be too late

Feel the moment slip into the past
Like sand through an hourglass
In the madness I guess I just forget
To do all the things I said

Time passes by
Never thought I'd wind up
One step behind
Now I've made my mind up

Today I'm gonna try a little harder
Gonna make every minute last longer
Gonna learn to forgive and forget
Cause we don't have long, gonna make the most of it

(Today) Today I'm gonna love my enemies (today)
Reach out to somebody who needs me
Make a change, make the world a better place
Cause tomorrow could be one day too late
One day too late
One day too late

Tick tock hear my life pass by
I can't erase and I can't rewind
Of all the things I regret the most I do
Wish I'd spent more time with you

Here's my chance for a new beginning
I saved the best for a better ending
And in the end I'll make it up to you, you'll see
You'll get the very best of me

Time passes by
Never thought I'd wind up
One step behind
Now I've made my mind up

Today I'm gonna try a little harder
Gonna make every minute last longer
Gonna learn to forgive and forget
Cause we don't have long, gonna make the most of it

(Today) Today I'm gonna love my enemies (today)
Reach out to somebody who needs me
Make a change, make the world a better place
Cause tomorrow could be one day too late
One day too late

Your time is running out
You're never gonna get it back
So make the most of every moment
Stop saving the best for last

(Today) Today I'm gonna try a little harder (Today)
Gonna make every minute last longer
Gonna learn to forgive and forget
Cause we don't have long, gonna make the most of it

(Today) Today I'm gonna love my enemies (Today)
Reach out to somebody who needs me
Make a change, make the world a better place
Cause tomorrow could be one day too late
One day too late
One day too late
One day too late
One day too late

General CommentGreat song! My favourite on the album so far. Has a great, simple measure. "Make every moment count" simple and pure.

General CommentYea, it's about doing everything you can to make sure your happy now, because anything can happen, and it could make you just "One Day Too Late". Forgiving enemies, helping those not-so-fortunate ones, and most of all, doing everything you can to make your personal/love life happy. This song definitely relates to me...as of Thursday, I was going to ask a girl out, and apparently so was another kid. I waited for a month, and he waited a week. This song isn't JUST an amazing song to listen to, it's what you SHOULD do.

General CommentIn the song “One Day To Late” by Skillet, it talks about how we have waited to long, and we never know how many days we have left. We also see the ancestry and who shaped who Skillet to write what they do. This is a very personal song that pulls you in and makes you think about the lyrics. Its not just another song, it has meaning behind it.

As Skillet writes down the song “One Day To Late” there ancestral side comes out, getting there deep emotion, making the song personal and Christian rock from U2. U2 came out in 1976, 20 years later Skillet came together. They both share the need for deep emotion in there songs; its more then just some music and lyrics. They use a lot of repetitive to get there point across. In “One Day to Late” we see that you can’t take anytime for granted, because it may be your last day.

Making this song very personal was done very well by Skillet in “One Day To Late”. If you look at the song as a whole you can see that it shows what our culture is like. How people take to many days for granted, especially as Christians. The part in the song that shows this the best is “In the madness, I guess, I just forget/To do all the things I said” (8-9). To many people say that they are going to do something but they never do, we need to change that. It also makes it not just about us, but its about those that are around us, that we could have changed, but we took that time we had for granted. “Of all the things I regret the most I do/Wish I’d spent more time with you” (32-33). As Christians we can take this two ways, one that the lyrics are talking about time with other people, but also it could be time with God. Either way its time that we wasted, why? Probably because our culture was telling us we will have time later, however we don’t, because tomorrow could be too late (4). This also makes it personal for us, how it could have changed our own lives. “Gonna make every minute last longer/Gonna learn to forgive and forget/‘Cause we don’t have long, gonna make the most of it” (63-65). We haven’t just wasted other people’s time we’ve wasted our own. We could have changed our selfs if we just wouldn’t have taken the time we have for granted. This is why this song is so personal.

Skillet opens the song with an elegiac tone saying “Tick tock, hear the clock countdown/ Wish the minute hand could be rewound/So much to do and so much I need to say/ Will tomorrow be too late?” (1-4). Elegiac tone is the main tone through out the song talking about not knowing if tomorrow will be too late. Then they jump into making every day count and make change because you never know how many days you have left (17, 26). Which they use hortatory to strongly encourage us to do the same. A good metaphor that they use is “Feel the moment slip into the past/Sand through an hourglass” (6-7). That shows me that we don’t have a lot of time and before you know it your hourglass has run out, and have you completed what you wanted before it was too late?

This whole song is very personal like I mentioned before, the truth is very personal too, how it talks about what I have done and what I have to do. It makes it postmodernism for truth, because it doesn’t talk about what we have to do but what I have done, but also invites us to change. Also its frustrated because the world doesn’t live up to our expectations which is postmodernism. We see this because it talks about changing the world and making it a better place (70). Also just in the context of the song how the person in the song is upset because they have waited to long, but also because the world has waited to long meaning that he’s not alone there are many others in the world that have waited to long. Thirdly it emphasizes play and chance, because we have waited to long, and were expecting to have more time, but we really don’t know when it could be our last day. Play and chance is also postmodernism. “One Day To Late” by Skillet is mainly a postmodernism song, that talks about how we have waited to long and we don’t know how many days we have left, so we have to make the best of what we have (that day) and live like its our last.

Song MeaningThis is a great song for self-reflection. It's not about pursuing happiness for ourselves but for the people around us. Who are you? Where did you come from? How did you make a difference on someone else's life? and where are you heading? A lot of people don't realize that the pursuit of happiness doesn't start and end with us finding and getting what we want in life, but it is about us making the people around us happy and in return, it will make us happy.

"Because in the end, the only way we can measure the significance of our own lives is by valuing the lives of others.” – David Gale
