"For the Glory" as written by Dave Mccracken, Amanda Ghost and Ian Brown....
Sow the wind and reap the whirlwind
Through the rain and through the shine
Only something with a meaning can stand the test of time
I really should’ve told ya
I really wanna hold ya
You gotta know you won't miss your water till the well runs dry

Cast the spell and catch the spellbound
Sing the song and bang the drum
Feel the need and just believe
The best is yet to come
I really should have told ya
I really wanna hold ya
You gotta know you won't miss your water till the well runs dry.

But when the bombs begin to fall
I didn't do it for the roses
As I was striding 10 feet tall
Well that's another story
For the glory

The good that you do
Will carry you through
Yeah, yeah
I did it for you
I didn’t do it for the glory

Cry like you never cried before
See my picture on your wall
Laugh like you’ve never laughed at all as
All is meant to be
The wonders never cease

And when the bombs begin to fall
I didn't do it for the roses
As I was striding 10 feet tall
Well that's another story
For the glory

The good that you do
Will carry you through
Yeah, yeah
I did it for you
I didn’t do it for the glory

My InterpretationJust my interpretation - I feel he sings about a woman he loved but had to leave, and he feels remorse about this. He had to leave her because his of his inevitable lifestyle in the Stone Roses. He didn't, however, leave her for his own sake, or for the band's sake, but for her's as she would be unhappy being in that kind of relationship.

He feels remorse because "You won't miss your water till your well runs dry"

"When the bombs began to fall" = 'When we were breaking up'. "I didn't do it for the roses" = he tells her he did it for her and not for his love for the band. The line "I did it for you, I didn't do it for the glory" fortifies this interpretation.

    Just my 2 cents
