All you great men of power, you who boast of your feats
Politicians and entrepreneurs
Can you safe guard your breath in the night while you sleep
Keep your heart beating steady or sure?
As you lie in your bed does the thought haunt your head
That you're really rather small?
If there's one thing I know in this life, we are beggars all

All you champions of science and rulers of men
Can you summon the sun from it's sleep?
Does the earth seek your council on how fast to spin?
Can you shut up the gates of the deep?
Don't you know that all things hang as if on a string over darkness, poised to fall?
If there's one thing I know in this life, we are beggars all

All you big shots who swagger and stride with conceit
Did you devise how your frame would be formed?
If you'd be raised in a palace or left out on the streets?
Or Choose the place or the hour you'd be born?
Tell me what can you claim not a thing, not your name
Tell me if you can recall just one thing, not a gift, in this life

Can you hear what's been said, can you see now that everything's grace after all
If there's one thing I know in this life, we are beggars all

General CommentThis song really summarizes the concept of the album. That no matter what you do in life, how rich or how poor, how powerful...it's all up to something else. In that sense we are all beggars, because life is given to us.

    Amazing lyrics, amazing song.

General CommentThis song has a very unique and indepth feeling to it. It belittles you into liking it. Its evident that the songs objective is to discredit humanity via very true insights. Also it reaches into the topic of humanity needing control over everything despite us knowing its not possible. We are a high and mighty species that are convinced the earth needs us to save it, when infact in order for it to be saved the earth needs us gone. " Can you summon the sun from its sleep? Does the earth seek your council on how fast to spin? Can you shut out the gates of the deep. However the first verse of the song is that really touches me the most in a profound manner. " All you great men of power, you who boast of your feats
Politicians and entrepreneurs. Can you safe guard your breath in the night while you sleep Keep your heart beating steady or sure?" - Despite all your "power" and "accomplishment" you cant even keep yourself alive.
"As you lie in your bed does the thought haunt your head
    That you're really rather small?
If there's one thing I know in this life, we are beggars all"- Does it bother you that your not important, cause your not. All of us are at the whim of life and mortality, we "beg" to stay alive.

In substance, execution, and composition; breath taking excellence.

    Thank you thrice

General CommentIf you have studied Martin Luther, you know he harped on God's grace and mercy in the midst of the human condition. When Luther died, in his pocket was a piece of paper written: "We are all beggars, this is true!"

General CommentThis song is about the infinate differences between God and mankind. He is infinitely holy, and we in contrast are utterly sinful, He is all powerful, we are powerless, He is all good, we are all bad, yet His love for us is clear in every good thing we recieve in life (life itself, breath, food, drink, sunlight, beauty, sunlight, people, etc). God has grace on everyone, even if they don't love His son Jesus. James 1:17 "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change."

I absolutely love this song. This whole album has changed my life by giving me better understanding of the contrast between an indescribably good God, and my total depravity, and desperate need for Him.

General CommentCurious, did you get a leak of the lyrics or something? It always sounded like "Now that everything is grace after all" to me.
