There is a place on the wrong side of town
It's a curse whenever I go
And I have to forget that the thoughts in my head
Let me down, I want you to know

Now I don't know ya but you are my jailer
I've been sentenced by the jury below
Now it scares me to death
And I just cannot let, this cage they put over me

Don't drag the river
I hear the voices on the ground
Don't drag the river
I go to sleep without a sound

You can turn out the daylight, I'll be gone in the morning
You can try to burn down the sun
I gotta make you believe that I did not deceive
No, I did not hurt anyone

You can make me slave, you can make me a number
But I'm not the one who lied
'Cause they threw away the key and it just cannot be
In this cage that they put over me

Don't drag the river
I hear the voices on the ground
Don't drag the river
I go to sleep without a sound

I'm in a state of madness, I panic in my head
They're gonna pull me under, no matter, what I said
I taste the fear inside me, I'm gonna break my vow
And now the hound is callin', it's gonna take me down

Taste the fear inside me, I'm gonna break my vow
And now the hound is callin', take me down

I hear the voices on the ground
I go to sleep without a sound

River
I hear the voices on the ground
Don't drag the river
I go to sleep without a sound

Don't drag the river
I hear the voices
Don't drag the river
I go to sleep without a sigh

Don't drag the river
Don't drag the river
Don't drag the river
There's only my love for you

Don't drag the river
There's only my heart for you
Don't drag the river
There's only my love for you, oh

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.
