"The Best Of Me" as written by Quinn Allman, Jeph Howard, Daniel Whitesides and Robert Mccracken....
I could forget your name
I could forget your face forever
I could forget about the smile you always faked
The one you thought I thought would never
I could forget your lies
I could forget the height for always
I could forget how desperately you tried
Flattery would get you nowhere
I could forget how you would try to get the best of me
You'll never forget that you never got me!

You never got me!
Real nice to know that you care
To leave me soaking wet
I'm so surprised you would dare
You make me wanna forget (make me wanna forget)

I could forget your pride
I could forget your wondering eyes
I could forget about the way you made me feel
You talk so condescendingly
I could forget how you would try to get the best of me
You'll never forget that you never got me!

You never got me!
Real nice to know that you care
To leave me soaking wet
I'm so surprised you would dare
You make me wanna forget

Real nice to know that you care
To leave me soaking wet
I'm so surprised you would dare
You make me wanna forget

(Never got me!)

Real nice to know that you care
To leave me soaking wet
I'm so surprised you would dare
You make me wanna forget

Real nice to know that you care
To leave me soaking wet
I'm so surprised you would dare
You make me wanna forget

(You make me, you make me)
You make me wanna forget.
(You make me, get!)

General CommentTo me, this song sounds about a bad break up, and that the relationship never were good in the first place.

Song MeaningI'd pretty much agree with the John Feldmann idea. But honestly, this could be a reference to anyone, or anything. It pretty much covers all of the people that may of backstabbed/hurt/betrayed Bert. Very relate able song and my favorite off the album. I like how this song was a major, major throwback to ILAD and their self-titled album. Reminded me a lot of Sound Effects and Overdramatics.

General Commenti definitely agree to this sounding like Sound Effects
yess that's what i first thought.
but the meaning itself, i don't think of it as a relationship that started badly, just a relationship Bert needs to let go
he's telling himself all this stuff to ease the pain rather than it actually working.
like "i could forget" rather than "i will" or "i did"
i don't think he really can
    and "you never got me"
i think he's also trying to tell himself and convince himself that it wasn't that great
    when really it was
but that's just my take on it.
and i don't really wanna start arguments on here, they're all just opinions.

General CommentI love the fact that it sounds a lot like Sound Effects as that is still one of my fave songs by them!!!! But on this song, which to me is one of the best on Artwork, Bert actually said at their London show on Wednesday that this song is about revenge!!
Oh and its 'I could forget the Hype for always' and not 'Height for always'!!!! - just thought i would throw that one in lol!

    I could forget your lies
I could forget the hype for always
I could forget how desperately you tried
    Flattery will get you nowhere

I could forget how you had tried to get the best of me
You'll never forget that you never got me

    You never got me

Real nice to know that you care

General CommentYeah, I'm with andiemom, I'm pretty sure it sounds like 'hype for always' instead of 'height for always', but that's just me (:

Also when I heard it, right before the chorus, it sounded a bit like the beginning of Sound Effects and Overdramatics.
