"Growing Pains" as written by Eric Jackson and Michael Joseph Hamilton....
My heart it melts like plastic
I fell through the hole yesterday
Your smile pulled me in like elastic
I felt my mind detonate

Oh, I've made mistakes
And you just say it's just growing
When I feel ashamed
You tell me it's just growing pains

We broke in two like a matchstick
It burns in my soul every day, every day
Your world was to me, so fantastic
And help seemed so far away, far away

Oh, I've made mistakes
And you just say it's just growing
When I feel ashamed
You tell me it's just growing pains
When I'm crying out for change
You tell me it's just growing pains
Oh, I've made mistakes
And yes I know, it's growing pains

The truth it feels like concrete
I drove into this wall yesterday
I wish I could be realistic
But my children, my dreams, went away

I know I made mistakes
You say it's growing pains
And when I feel ashamed
You say it's growing pains
And I'm crying out for change
You say it's growing pains
I know I made mistakes
I know it's growing pains

Oh, I've made mistakes
And you just say it's just growing
When I feel ashamed
You tell me it's just growing pains
When I'm crying out for change
And oh, I've made mistakes
And yes I know, it's growing pains

General CommentI think maybe it's to do with one of those fun, heady relationships. You fall quickly and it ends quickly. And all too suddenly she realises that truth.

But it's not just that, because the whole growing pains chorus seems like a completely different thing to me. She's trying to voice her feelings, crying out for help and understanding, but the other person won't take her seriously - it's like trying to say you feel lost, upset or depressed and the other person tells you 'oh, it's just your age' or 'it's because you're a teenager, it's a hard time' etc.

General CommentFor me it's about knowing how you feel, but also knowing that the world/other people would view you differently. They don't care, but if you could see it like them you would just be fickle like all the others- leave what you felt so intensely before behind. But still, the song doesn't quite let go of the importance of the feeling an individual can feel, and how much it matters to them.

It dwells on the absolute lack of sympathy you find in other people, when they disregard what you feel. Your only 'reasonable' choice of action is to accept what others say/do. But it doesn't feel right and it's with you, always. Any 'angst', as it were, is just growing pains- but only the individual can know better and realise it's more than mere post-pubescent blues.

General CommentI always feel that the chorus is what her parents said to her as a teenager about her relationship and everything. Like saying "it's just a phase".

My InterpretationWell, in my own experience, I think she wrote this song, because she has to deal with things that adults have to deal with, and she's having a tough time. Obviously, it's not that hard to interpret. But with me, I feel guilty or ashamed or have regret, for stupid stuff. Like cussing!! And sometimes, I wish I was someone else, and I wish for change. And when I tell my mom (I'm only 13, but I can be very deep...haha) I want to go to a counselor, she said of course, but made me realize it might just be growing pains. And she said exactly that. Kinda weird, cause this is like my favorite song, and I relate to it sooooooo much!

General CommentI think it's about a relationship that doesn't quite fit- they're attracted and trying to make it work, the SO doesn't wanna recognise that things aren't gonna work out and thinks they just need to tough it out until they "grow" into it
