I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
Stands and gears, oh how the daisies bloom
When chandeliers light up the engine room
Can you feel the drops as it starts to rain
There's an underwater Ferris wheel where
I found the missing link to this island chain
Home will always be here unseen, out of sight
Where I disappear and hide
I think dreamy things as I'm waving goodbye
So I'll spread out my wings and fly
Home is a boxcar and it's so far out of reach
Hidden under umbrella beach
Home will always be here, unseen, out of sight
Where I disappear and hide
I think dreamy things as I'm waving goodbye
So I'll spread out my wings and fly
I'll spread my wings and fly
Home is a boxcar and it's so far out of reach
Hidden under umbrella beach
When chandeliers light up the engine room
Can you feel the drops as it starts to rain
There's an underwater Ferris wheel where
I found the missing link to this island chain
Home will always be here unseen, out of sight
Where I disappear and hide
I think dreamy things as I'm waving goodbye
So I'll spread out my wings and fly
Home is a boxcar and it's so far out of reach
Hidden under umbrella beach
Home will always be here, unseen, out of sight
Where I disappear and hide
I think dreamy things as I'm waving goodbye
So I'll spread out my wings and fly
I'll spread my wings and fly
Home is a boxcar and it's so far out of reach
Hidden under umbrella beach

Magical

Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
Blue

Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
This song is about having a secret place you can escape to and be alone. As suggested by the video, the boxcar is something adam has to build himself, "out of reach", and the umbrella beach is his get away place, beautiful and totally hidden. Just my interpretation :)
I get the feeling that this song is about... leaving somewhere, one's birthplace most likely, but knowing that no matter wherever you go, the place you leave will always and unconditionally be your home.
"Home will always be here, unseen, out of sight, where I disappear and hide" means to me that the speaker is embarking on some kind of trip that will take him to far places, and yet he can always rely on this place to be somewhere safe, where he can rest.
"And I think dreamy things as I'm waving goodbye, so I'll spread out my wings and fly" seems to say that the singer is a child that understands that he has to leave one day. However, he will always have fond memories of the place, and when he spreads his wings he will "fly" and make a new path for himself.
But in the end... he'll never forget home, no matter how far it is.
Awesome song :D
And I think it's "home will always be here, unseen, out of sight" At least that's what I hear, haha.
Oooh, thanks!
Sure, it's flamboyant, but it is quite a well-written song. I like it. 5 stars.
This is definitely my favourite song by Owl City. I'm pretty sure he's talking about a space where he can hide and not be afraid of anything around him, and just be alone. Very good song. Trippy.
where the question mark is, its probably not "sea out of sight" either "Home will always be here on the scenery' side" or "Home will always be here, unseen, outta sight" (I think its this one)
Thanks for your help! [:
Hell yeah! Scenery side is what it's sticking as for me! >:]
I think it's a dream getaway, a sanctuary. This world is always so serious, so it's good to have a hidden spot to relax and have fun
This song is incredible. I need to have this played while I'm on a dancefloor, and do a lightstick routine during the chorus :P
This song really is quite sad. It seems like he is looking back on your life, and just trying to get away from it all. Combined with the video, it looks to me like it's about someone wanting to end their life, and just get away. "I'll spread my wings and fly". It's heartbreaking. I bet an acoustic version of this would make me cry.
A couple things:
The first line is 'stems and gears', not 'sands and gears'. Other than that the lyrics seem to be correct.
As far as I can tell, the song is either meaningless innocent surrealism or it's talking about a place to go and be in peace when life is confusing and scary ("Can you feel the drops as it starts to rain/There's an underwater Ferris wheel/Where I found the missing link to this island chain"). He's probably talking about heaven/being in God's grace, but those who have a problem with religion can take it any way they want.
To me , it's about the cozy place you can go to , to work on something interesting, without being disturbed or judged by anyone.

I can really relate to it , because i do the same thing.

This place really feels a home because, you feel great because you are working on something you always dreamed about . You also return to it when you feel down or hurt ( I do , anyway )

Because this place is so important , it should remain unseen , out of sight .
Any project you are working on is for your eyes only , at least until it's finished.

To me , there is not much sad about this song : it's about dreaming about creating something , and working to achieve this. It's beautiful.

The downside of this , is that by focusing to much on it , you lose track of the people you love . This is shown in the video , where you see someone waiting to eat for him ,and eventually she eats alone because he's busy on his projects.

Thanks; changed it to 'stem and gears' [:
