"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him.
There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
(Our love was lost)
Hey, hey, haha (where'd you go? Where'd you)
(But now we've found it)
Oh yeah, uh (where'd you go? Where'd you go? Where'd you go?)
(Our love was lost, oh, lost)
Doin' the happy dance (where'd you, where'd you go?)
(And hope was gone)
Doin' the happy dance (where'd you go? Haha)
Doin' the happy dance (haha, yeah)
(Our love was lost)
Where'd you go? What'd you do?
How the hell you make me fall in love with you? (But now we've found it)
And then you leave, now you're gone
All I got is this damn song (and if you flash your heart)
So I can feel but I can't touch (oh, heart)
You said my love was a bit too much (I won't deny it)
Broke my heart, can't find no crutch
So why don't you come on back home? (Can I spit?)
Hey, I'm a fuckin' workaholic with a passion in my heart
Treatin' rappin' as a art in which you have to be apart of
I just copped a new car to hear it start up
Try to do the right thing and please karma
All I want to know is
Where the fuck did you have to go?
I've been waitin' on you, baby
Why don't you leave and come on home?
I can't be mad, I'm livin' my dream
(Goin' all around the globe)
Though you said you think you love me
(You need to let me know)
So I've been fuckin' all these hoes
And I've been blowin' all this cash
'Cause, baby, this just the beginnin'
And I'ma make all of it back
(Our love was lost)
Where'd you go? What'd you do?
How the hell you make me fall in love with you? (But now we've found it)
And then you leave, now you're gone
All I got is this damn song (hey, hey, hey) (and if you flash your heart)
So I can feel but I can't touch (hey, hey, hey) (oh, heart)
You said my love was a bit too much (hey) (I won't deny it)
Broke my heart, can't find no crutch
So why don't you come on back home? (Hey, hey, hey)
It's all good, everybody tryna eat tonight
Tryna go to sleep, havin' good dreams tonight
You go home, it might get better
All I know, it don't last forever
So take it while you got it, try to get a little more
They say I'm gettin' better than I ever been before
Well, that's for sure, tell 'em what I do
Rap keep me fed like a spoon gettin' soup
I've been out here on the road and now they missin' me at home
All these ex-girls that I used to know are hittin' up my phone
But I ain't here, I guess you can call back
Sex, drugs, and rock-and-roll, I think I'll take all that
(Our love was lost)
Where'd you go? What'd you do?
How the hell you make me fall in love with you? (But now we've found it)
And then you leave, now you're gone
All I got is this damn song (and if you flash your heart)
So I can feel but I can't touch (oh, heart)
You said my love was a bit too much (I won't deny it)
Broke my heart, can't find no crutch

Yeah
Huh-huh, and it gets no better than this
Huh, yeah, it gets no better than this
Yeah, it gets no better, yeah, it gets no better
Yeah, it gets no better, this shit forever
Get no better, it get no better
Yeah, it get no better, yeah, this shit forever
Bum-bada-bum-bum-bum-bum-bum, ba-dum
You can cut it here and then we're done
Hey, hey, haha (where'd you go? Where'd you)
(But now we've found it)
Oh yeah, uh (where'd you go? Where'd you go? Where'd you go?)
(Our love was lost, oh, lost)
Doin' the happy dance (where'd you, where'd you go?)
(And hope was gone)
Doin' the happy dance (where'd you go? Haha)

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday".
I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.
Mountain Song

Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it."
"There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
Midnight

Ed Sheeran
“Midnight” is a song about finding a love that is so true that it provides a calming feeling through every storm. Ed Sheeran reflects on his good fortunes in landing someone with such peace and support and speaks of not fearing the dark days because he knows they’ll all end in the safety nets of her arms.
“Well, good morning there / What a way to start the day / With everything laid bare,” Ed Sheeran sings in the first verse, enthusiastic to be waking up beside his woman. He apologizes for missing her calls in the second verse and promises to return them because for him, speaking to her is the most important thing. “Well, I get lost inside my head / In this chaos, you’re my calm / And I will find my feet again / ‘Cause еven the worst days of my life will always еnd / At midnight in your arms,” sings Ed Sheeran in the chorus, revelling in his good luck.
I predict the "comments" for this song will increase from 3 to 300 very soon. This is truley an amazing song by The Temper Trap. Whilst the lyrics are self explanatory, I feel a sense of depression and saddness from the singer. Although he is willing to love again and not neglect it, I personally think he will be waiting for the rest of his life...
DrMeaningful, why do you think he will be waiting for the rest of his life? I mean, some things ARE broken even if small pieces seem to come back together but what about these lyrics gives you that feeling?
This song is a perfect replica of my relationship at the moment.
Its about two people who are going through things with one being more committed to the relationship and always trying despite the hostility and lack of hope from the other participant. 'I know it's hard But I can still hear it beating So if you flash your heart I won't mistreat it I promise'
The person who isn't trying has made the relationship up in their head from day one and has high expectations that aren't met and their 'love was lost' but the other person keeps on trying. 'Our love was lost In the rubble are all the things That you've, you've been dreaming of Keep me in mind When you're ready I am here To take you every time'
The person isn't ready and committed to the relationship and the trying partner cant appeal to them as they are to closed off. 'Your walls are up Too cold to touch it Your walls are up Too high to climb'
Sadly I cant tell if they get back together or separate. I wish the Temper Trap could have told us this as then I would know what to do.
The video clip also shows this. The boys are running through the woods appealing with their arms out to the girls. The boys are muddy and dirty from trying to do so, yet they keep going. Then the girls come in who are clean and perfect from not trying. The boys cant appeal to them and the girls run on a different path.
"Sadly I cant tell if they get back together or separate. I wish the Temper Trap could have told us this as then I would know what to do."<br /> <br /> Well they say "But now its found" throughout the song, so they probably did get back together, thank you for your comment! :D
Temper Trap is so under rated and this is my favourite song of their's XD.
I think it's pretty obvious; his relationship with this person broke up previously. "Our love was lost, and hope was gone." They've come to reconcile their differences, and now the singer is waiting for the other to come back into his life and let him in again. (It's really nicely said - "and if you flash your heart, i won't deny it - I promise.")
The other person is really scared to try this again with all the walls they've built up and is reluctant to do the relationship again but the singer is willing to wait until they're ready. <3 so cute. "Keep me in mind, when you're ready I am here to take you every time". I wish someone loved me like that..
I love love love the temper trap, but this is my favorite song.. by far! been listening to it for a while now... and i just cant get tired of it haha.
when he sings: " Our love was lost in the rubble are all things that you've, you've been dreaming of Keep me in mind when you're ready I am here to take you every time"
It always gives me chills :)
my sentiments exactly! that section is the most amazing part of an amazing song<br /> love it
The lyrics are just devine. It's everything I am in at the moment.
"Your walls are up too cold to touch it, Your walls are up too high to climb
I know it's hard but I can still hear it beating, So if you flash you heart, I won't mistreat it I promise"
The MV itself is beautiful. The boys running through a course thats horrid and dirty, theres no hope... just mud. Yet they run right back to where they start. Them stopping, is like a hiccup in the relationship... where later the girls come running back into the picture. Yet they weren't on the same path... the girls were on the greener side, with clean clothes and polished image whilst the boys were stuck on the muddy road. I guess, they never truely got back together... it's like living in a paralelle universe.
Which is really like reality. How could two people possibly get together if you don't ever confess that you still want them back. Even if one is willing to take you back no-matter what... there's always that second thought that they might have moved on... even though they never will.
kaya9,<br /> i've watched the MV many time in one sitting, i just can't get over it. it was so funny, yet inspiring! yeah, you're right about having to spill out what you feel rather than bottling it all in.. who knows, the other person might just be waiting for us to tell them what we feel.. and heaven knows, they might have the same feelings for us or more!
'Our love was lost. In the rubble are all the things that you've,you've been dreaming of. Keep me in mind, When you're ready I am here To take you every time.'
Such beautiful lyrics. And the way the music stops before those lines and then all comes in at once is amazing. The way it builds through the lines to 'our love was lost, lost, lost, lost...'just gives me chills. It's amazing.
"Our love was lost in the rubble are all things that you've, you've been dreaming of Keep me in mind when you're ready I am here to take you every time"
probably the best lines a song by any artst has ever produced?
u only have to look up some snow patrol songs (just to name one band) and the lyrics are far greater - gary lightbody is a lyrical genius. that said...i'm not taking anything away from this song - has a very melancholic yet uplifting feel to it, much like coldplay's 'fix you'. great up and coming band - 500 days of summer has done these guys a world of good
Jesse Lacey, Andy Hull, and Max Bemis are far better lyricists
Love this band. Such amazing lyrics. agreed.
I agree this could song could apply to any relationship/breakup. however... I know this band quite well and apparently this song is actually about the Love the God has us. "Our love was lost but now we've found it"
"I know it's hard but I can still hear it beating, So if you flash you heart, I won't mistreat it I promise (I promise)" -what an awesome example of how god sees through us, even if we deny him... he still wants our heart, ....its like he yearns for us to come home . he promises he won't leave us dry or "mistreat" our hearts.
so freakin. awesome.
i agree mrsspoonlegs, that part of the song gives me chills too! god hes got an amazing voice.
