Push your controlling values aside, and dissect your own life
It's not about my beliefs.
It's about personal choice
It breaks your heart to see me consume,
But it shatters mine to see people follow you
Ask me to be blameless
You ask me to be blameless
But who are you to decide whats right?
Don't say another word
You've crossed the line
Lets go,
I wont hesitate to put you in your place.
You are the straw thats crushing my back.
You ask me to be blameless
You ask me to be blameless
but who are you to decide whats right?
Dont say another word
However, I thank you for this pen and ink ammunition
Thank you for the inspiration
You're the straw that's crushing my back
You are the salt that's burning my wounds

General CommentI think this song is a rant against legalistic Christianity that tries to dictate what's right and wrong about your actions and fails to look at a person's heart. The Pharisees in the Bible were legalists and Jesus referred to them as whitewashed tombs. Pretty on the outside, but decaying on the inside.

Also, I think the line "It breaks your heart to see me consume" is referring to those who condemn the band because they drink. Just a few thoughts. :) Awesome song tho!

General CommentIt reminds me of the movie' Expelled'. I never saw it, but my dad told me about it awhile ago.
He said it's about how atheists just ignore everything that's related to creationism.

    Great song though.

General CommentTake that back. After reading this very carefully and listening to the song. It's response back to someone that's straight edge and critized them for being christians and drinking alcohol. Maybe towards Jeremy McKinnon from A Day To Remember for "Why Walk On Water When We've Got Boats".

"Push your controlling values aside, and dissect your own life. It's not about my beliefs. It's about personal choice." - referring towards someone that's straight-edge.

"It breaks your heart to see me consume, but it shatters mine to see people follow you" - When he talks about this...sorry kids but, the members of August Burns Red does drink alcohol. Straight-Edge doesn't believe in religion and preaching about it how Christianity isn't real so kids will follow it.

"Ask me to be blameless. You ask me to be blameless but who are you to decide whats right?" - How this person is asking them how they aren't innocent for drinking but, still can be Christian.
