I think back upon the past
And i knew you to be
Righting the wrongs in the name
Of all you believed

The one who brought the fight
Who never said die
Never letting fate decide

Be all you hope for
You were the best you could be
All that in tribute
All that you had achieved

No time for words
From those with nothing to say
Never letting fate decide

Until the end and back again
Defiant to the last man
`til there's nothing left
To fight against
No surrender

Unto the corners of the earth
Defiant to the last breath
Until there's none left standing
No surrender

Conjured the ground upon which
You've only stood
Buried the conflicts that had
Preyed on your mind

Found strengths in actions
That only courage achieves
Never letting fate decide

Until the end and back again
Defiant to the last man
`til there's nothing left
To fight against
No surrender

Unto the corners of the earth
Defiant to the last breath
Until there's none left standing
No surrender

Until the end and back again
Defiant to the last man
`til there's nothing left
To fight against
No surrender

Unto the corners of the earth
Defiant to the last breath
Until there's none left standing
No surrender

No surrender
No surrender

General CommentThe lyrics here are not completely accurate...

However this song almost reaches the highs of 'Perpetual' from Matter+Form. Can't wait to hear this live. Fucking great! :)

General CommentThe song is called In Defiance firstly...

The only lyric I can find to fix is:
"Conjure the ground upon which you firmly stood"

And as for meaning..rather straight-forward: "No surrender."

My OpinionI think this is the happiest, most positive track this man has made. It's so...uplifting.

I think he kind of phrases it like a declaration, this is how it's going to be. I think it's strange how he mentions war, endurance...like this is a battle to be the best person you can be, fighting to the last man to do your best.

I don't know, I think it's kind of contradictory to say, I'm going to bash my neightbor's head in to be the best person possible, to be defiant till there's no hope, everlasting joy.

VNV Nation usually writes about strife, hardship, corruption and human character. Why is it he chose to dwell on a positive characteristic, with his usual die-hard enthusiasm?

Weird, how he puts conflict into this. At least in my mind. But I've been flamed before for being "wrong".

Sometimes I see this group as a fusion of Phil Collins and Apopygma Berzerk, is that weird?

    General Comment""Found strengths in actions
    That only courage achieves
    Never letting fate decide""

Some people view life as pre-determined, and settle for whatever fate gives them. I view things song as a "Defiance" of that philosophy. To me, the song says REMEMBER YOU ARE IN CONTROL OF YOUR LIFE / FATE.

""Until the end and back again, defiant to the last man, till there's nothing left to fight against"

Continually questioning, prodding and tackling life is the only way to truly live it. Letting fate decide what and who you are (in the opinion of this song I believe) are outdated ways of thinking.

    ""Found strengths in actions
    That only courage achieves
    Never letting fate decide""

Gaining strength through standing by your convictions...not settling for what you've been handed, if it's not what you wanted. No surrender.
