"Last Goodbye" as written by and Thomas Clarke....
Ever feel so down you can't go on
Ever feel so down you can't go on
I know I'm going
Everybody's telling me that I'm wrong

Ever feel so down you can't go on
Ever feel so down you can't go on
I know it's showing
The cracks are growing, it's not long

Well if you want me there, come and get me
I'm leaving this world behind
If you hate me then try and take me
Your words won't even break my stride

As I wave my last goodbye
I won't feel shame, I won't ask why
There's no place to hold my bet
There's no heaven for those who pray

Ever feel so down you can't go on
Ever feel so down you can't go on
I know I'm going
Everybody's telling me that I'm wrong

Ever feel so down you can't go on
Ever feel so down you can't go on
I know it's showing
The cracks are growing, and it's not long

Well if you want me there, come and get me
I'm leaving this world behind
If you hate me then try and take me
Your words won't even break my stride

As I wave my last goodbye
I won't feel shame, I won't ask why
There's no place to hold my bet
There's no heaven for those who break

As I leave this world behind
Every woman, man, and child
I won't hear you call my name
I'm in a place where souls can stay

If you want me, then come and get me
I'm leaving this world behind
If you hate me, then try and take me
Your words won't even break my stride

As I wave my last goodbye
I won't feel shame, I won't ask why
There's no place to hold my bet
There's no heaven for those who pray

MemoryI love this song so much. The emotion of it is so terrific.
Some say it sounds like Richard Ashcroft's "Words Just Get In The Way" I guess it does a bit but it's still a proper mint tune!
It's obviously about suicide and everytime I listen to it, it always makes me cry because it makes me think of my friend that had recently passed away to cancer :'(
Decided this was going to be my funeral song, but anyway.
    Beautiful, emotional song.

Song MeaningI think that there is more than one way to look at this song. One way, the more obvious, is death. It obviously has something to do with death because he says:

I won't hear you call my name
I'm in a place where souls can stay

He also mentions heaven, etc. So there is that aspect. But I found that outside the context of death, it could very easily be adapted to mean "Fuck You", I'm outta here, and the last goodbye is a middle finger, Johnny Cash style. Very much on the same line as "Nice To Know You" by Incubus, or "Lost For Words" by Pink Floyd. Basically a goodbye in the sense of 'I'm so f-ing done with you. Go away and die.' So, what do you think? Its either a sad sappy song about dying, or a balls-to-the-wall tirade of indifference and separation. I prefer the latter.

    Peace out.
