Oh
On a borrowed mattress you were stopping time
I've been watching you
I've been watching you
For hours and hours before you knew, ooh
You are the satin noose
I've been saving up to buy you.
You are the polished-pearl grips of your fathers .45,

Give me all those gory details,
Do tell, do tell.
So cut me up, Jenny,
Well, cut me up gently

I took full advantage of
Being taken full advantage of
Yeah, I took what I could get
And eventually it took the place of love
The match-makers in heaven,
Oh, they've got a one-track mind
So in our case, I don't think they mind
Alright...

Finger prints, a perfect match
And no you didn't have to leave the way you did
I've been watching you
I've been watching you
Most times you never knew.

You are a Sunday afternoon
With nothing to do
You are Manhattan in June
As the population's wearing next to nothing.
So cut me up, Jenny
Well, cut me up gently.

I took full advantage of
Being taken full advantage of
Yeah, I took what I could get
And eventually it took the place of love
The match-makers in heaven,
Oh, they got a one-track mind
So in our case, I don't think they mind
No in our case, I don't think they mind
So cut me up, Jenny
Well, cut me up gently

Yeah
Talking about our prayer
Is it gonna make me swear?
Yeah, move on, right on

Give me all those gory details,
Do tell, do tell.
So cut me up, Jenny,
Well, cut me up gently.

I took full advantage of
Being taken full advantage of
Yeah, I took what I could get
And eventually it took the place of love
The match-makers in heaven,
Oh, they've got a one-track mind
So in our case, I don't think they mind

So cut me up, Jenny
(Cut me up Jenny)
Cut me up gently
(Cut me up gently)
So cut me up, Jenny
(Cut me up Jenny)
Well, cut me up gently
(Cut me up gently)
So cut me up, Jenny
(Cut me up, Jenny)
Cut me up, Jenny
(Cut me up, Jenny)
Well, cut me up gently
(Cut me up gently)
Cut me up, Jenny
Cut me up gently

I think it's about a girl he genuinely had feelings for and things started off well, but she took advantage of him and maybe slept around (borrowed mattress?) so things fell apart. But, he kept crawling back for more and in the end instead of being 'love' it turned out to just be a physical relationship.

So now this girl is breaking his heart and 'cutting him up', but he can't stop himself being with her.

    My Interpretation

Such a great song. I think jenny isn't 1 girl but represents alot of different ones. I just think its about how adam will get fucked over in a relationship and use it as material to write songs and get rich. "I took full advantage of being taken full advantage of" thats what that means I think, and when he says eventually it took the place of love he is saying how he's been doing this so long that he cant even maintain a relationship kinda like he subconsiously wants shit to go bad so he'll have material. I could be wrong though anyone else have any takes on what its about?

I think "I have exciting news" should be "you are the satin noose"

it's by favorite song on the new cd. I just think it's about him using a girl for sex in a relationship who he doesn't even like being with. Cause he talks about match-makers in heaven having one-track minds.

I think Marky has it right, or rather since nobody knows for sure, I agree with him. I'm in the same boat as far as that situation goes. Actually, funnily enough, it's this song and Lonely, Lonely combined. This girl, who was new in town, and I hooked up but once she started getting to know people and made knew friends other than me she just cut me off. I've been screwed over in this same type of situation before and even though it hurts and she took advantage of me to feed her loneliness I'm willing to let her keep on doing it if she wants to because I've been screwed over and hurt so many times that when I am in a proper relationship, if there ever was one, that I can't deal and it feels funny if I'm not getting crapped on.

    i like your interpretation loadertoad.

psychologically, this situation is quite common people getting themselves into troubling relationships cause its what theyre used to and it gives them something to express in many different forms.

i like the guitar a lot in this song. im never 100% on the meaning of tbs lyrics. but i dig it a lot.

I'm gonna give loadertoad props that sounds like a perfect fit for the song. I can imagine Adam Lazzara doing that. So yes he is a genius :)

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
