"Swing" as written by and Adam Burbank Lazzara Matthew Fazzi....
open the gate to your apartment complex,
you're not getting off that easily.
i climb the fence,
the one that you've been sitting on.
(how long)
before i'm just a memory,
(how long)
before you can't remember me,
remember me.

i never had a choice,
i never had a choice,
to leave the choke-hold molding
around that two-hinge doorway,
i couldn't find the part to fix
that listless nagging in my brain
(how long)
before i'm just a memory,
(how long)
before you can't remember me,
remember me.

lover, lover
on the fence
bat your eyes, ball a fist and swing
swing, swing, swing, swing, swing.

lover, lover
now tell me this,
passion over consequence,
when did the latter take the lead?
just swing, just,
swing, swing, swing, swing, swing.

i never had a choice,
i never had a choice,
the evening lit itself
and watched my reservations fall to the floor
fall to the floor, now sing with me
(how long)
before i'm just a memory,
(how long)
before you can't remember me,
remember me.

lover, lover
on the fence
bat your eyes, ball a fist and swing
swing, swing, swing, swing, swing.

before you leave
lover, lover
tell me this,
passion over consequence,
when did the latter take the lead?
just swing, just,
swing, swing, swing, swing, swing.

"open the gate to your apartment complex,
did you forget, you're who called for me?"
(did you forget it?)
how long did you expect to keep me waiting?
how long before i'm just a memory?

lover, lover
on the fence
bat your eyes, ball a fist and swing
swing, swing, swing, swing, swing before you leave.

lover, lover
now tell me this,
passion over consequence,
since when did the latter take the lead?
just swing, just,
swing, swing, swing, swing, swing.

    General CommentOkay
First. I have a HUGE issue with people with bad spelling. It's "YOU'RE not getting off that easily" not "your".
-The song goes "I never had a choice to leave the choke-hold mold and romance through this doorway".
-Every other "swing" should be in brackets, like this "swing, (swing), swing, (swing).
-It's "ball A fist" not "ball your fist"
-You missed out "before you leave" it goes "bat your eyes, ball a fist and swing, (swing), swing, (swing), swing before you leave.
-Adam says "lover, lover, tell me this" there's no "now" before "tell me this"
-After "when did the latter take the lead" he says "Just swing....just swing" and the other 5 "swing"s should be in brackets.
-Adam says "now SING with me" not "now sit with me"
-After the second verse, in the second part of the chorus, he doesn't keep saying sing. he just says "Just swing...just swing" ...then he goes on to saying "open the gate to your appartment complex..."
-You forgot the "r" on "lover" when you wrote the last stanza.
    - Adam says "WELL, passion over consequence"
    - And for the last bit. To be specific, Adam says "Just swing (swing) swing (swing) swing (swing. swing)...Just swing. swing. swing. Just swing...

Yeah. I get really specific on lyrics. :P
and how do I know all this stuff
    1. I'm really good at listening to Adam. That's my thing when I listen to music. I pick apart the lyrics and find their meaning. So I listen to the songs many many times.
    2. I have the Special Edition, and that one includes the lyric booklet. lol. xD

I love this song. It's my second favourite, after "Sink Into Me"

    Cheers!

General CommentThis is my first (and last, took way too long, folks) attempt at conveying this message but I dont think it's going to go over well at all. Anyhow, having said that ... So, after thinking about alot of the lyrics on this album ("my 2nd life just ended", "both before and after the drugs", "it was made crystal clear" on Where My Mouth Is, --- "She says you wanna get me high?", "Dont you go changing for me" "into that crease on your arm the place where all the good times, they go and grow. would it taste the same, the same for me?" on Lonely Lonely, --- as well as others from this album, which would take entirely too long to referrence them all).

And when considering lyrics from the past ("Well who did you call to get this? Well is it who I think it is? I swear to god I'm gonna kill him. You always knew it was on purpose Yeah what's the point if it don't serve it's purpose "Splintered but focused" you're as good as gold You're built from distractions so brilliantly dull" from The Union, --- "With an incessant drip, sinus pockets like a faucet.", "(We) Are selfishly slimming because the season's got us eating less and less. (less and less) You walked the full length of Manhattan in no time flat While your soles they were stuck sticking in every step" from Sleep, --- "You've got this new head Filled up with smoke I've got my veins all tangled close", "A long night spent with your most obvious weaknesses You start shaking at the thought", "I'll make damn sure That you can't ever leave No you won't ever get too far from me" from MakeDamnSure, --- and just the names Spin and A Decade Under The Influence) I feel like Adam could potentially, possibly, maybe be a meth addict. I know! Way out of left field, huh?

From this song in particular, since this is the one I'm commenting on ... I got from it --- "i never had a choice, to leave the choke-hold molding around that two-hinge doorway, i couldn't find the part to fix that listless nagging in my brain (how long) before i'm just a memory, (how long) before you can't remember me" which to me, talks about how tweakers often get "stuck" on their projects ("listless nagging in my brain") and how she more than likely (and with good reason) ended the relationship (or threatened to, at least) due to his addiction. And "lover, lover now tell me this, passion over consequence, when did the latter take the lead?" could be a referrence to the overall selfishness of all tweakers while heavy in their addiction, as if to say his attitude is more or less "well goddamn, if you loved me you wouldnt be punishing me for this" (aka "passion over consequence, when did the latter take the lead?") because we tend to get a little wrapped up in ourselves and our own bullshit (for the most part). And her being on the fence is pretty much just that ... she can't decide if she's going to stay with him and work through it or if she's going to just end it right then and there, all because of his addiction.

Okay so before you all tell me what an idiot I am, lemme just say I know something about this subject, okay? And, yes I know lyrics are meant to be relatable and I could just be picking out points of interest for myself, but there are lots of clues throughout their albums. I didnt list any off of TAYF because 1) time 2) didnt feel like lookin' 'em up. Sorry. Anyway, onto...

The "second life" (Where My Mouth Is) - yah it totally becomes that way. The whole "before/after drugs" and "crystal clear" referrences would be obvious. As for the Lonely, Lonely - anyone who really knows what meth addiction is like wouldnt want to change someone into that ("Dont you go changing for me" "She says you wanna get me high?"), and "the crease on the arm" is a common place for people to inject it, cuz that's where the "good times" go and grow. And the part about "Would it taste the same for me?" would be something most of you will hopefully never truely understand, and that is when you inject speed (meth, tina, tweak, crystal, clear, work, dope, etc) if it's really good shit you'll taste it in your mouth, even though not a drop of it touched your tongue. It's a very weird, chemically taste, or so I've heard (heh!).

Alot of The Union is self explanatory except that if you've never done it, you wouldn't understand the referrence "Splintered but focused", which would explain the feeling of being "stuck" (it's a tweaker thing) and how it starts off "serving a purpose" for alot of people (cleanest house on the block), but after a while it's not like that anymore.

From Sleep, when you come down your "sinus pockets like a faucet" - way too true! And you could walk the length of Manhattan in no time flat, no problem.

A "new head filled up with smoke" could be someone who smokes, but his "veins all tangled close" meaning a banger (someone who injects via needle) and a "long night spent with your most obvious weakness" is obvious. The line "i'll make damn sure that you can't ever leave no you wont ever get too far from me" could mean two things, or both. It could referrence someone who makes an addict out of someone who wasn't one previously, thereby making them dependent on the person who "turned" them (something someone tried to do to me), but it could also be like the addiction actually talking to him. And the whole "break you down in the worst way" yah ... yah.

And since I mentioned it earlier, Spin would (assuming I'm right) referrence getting spun (ever see the movie Spun?), meaning getting high and staying high (and awake) for days. Again, it's a tweaker thing.

And ps - meth turns blue (My Blue Heaven and The Blue Channel) when you smoke it ... or some kinds do. I'd list ALL the referrences I could pick out but it'd take too long, and by that I mean longer than it's taking to explain all these referrences. And longer than I'm willing to spend considering I'm going to MakeDamnSure I get no Sleep cuz I'm going to Set Phasers To Stun and Spin because I am so Lonely, Lonely tonight as I have been Cute Without The E (Cut From The Team), and hope there's no Divine Intervention from Officer Rikes. Late!

General Comment"Lover, lover/now tell me this," sounds a lot like how one would say "Liar, liar/pants on fire" to me...

General CommentI took this song pretty literally, which is how I think it was meant, the lines:

    'lover, lover
    on the fence'

Suggest someone (an angry lover, perhaps) on the fence as to take aggressive action or not.

"bat your eyes, ball a fist and swing
    swing, swing, swing, swing, swing"

Literally means, Stop being on the goddamn fence and get angry, get passionate, Ball a fist and fucking swing!
    THIS is backed up by the following;

    "lover, lover
    now tell me this,
    passion over consequence,
when did the latter take the lead?
    just swing, just,
    swing, swing, swing, swing, swing."

Passion is in the swing of the fist, the final emotion without thought - giving someone what the truly deserve.
And SINCE WHEN did people start caring more about the consequences of hitting someone in the face, than the truly deserving (if thats the case) passion that comes behind it.
A bitter lover, a heart done wrong.

    Just swing.

General Comment"I never had a choice to leave the choke-hold mold and romance through this doorway"

and I think he continues with the "on the fence" reference with the first "lover, lover on the fence" instead of "lover, love we're all your friends"

General CommentIt just sounds like he is falling farther and farther away from someone and is remembering all the days of the past.

Definitely my favorite off the new cd.
