Midnight winds are landing at the end of time
Midnight winds are landing at the end of time
A true story wants to be mine
A true story wants to be mine
The story is telling a true lie
The story is telling a true lie
Mandolins are ringing to his viol singing
Mandolins are ringing to his viol singing

Midnight winds are landing at the end of time
Midnight winds are landing at the end of time
Dungeon's sinking to a slumber to the end of time
Dungeon's sinking to a slumber to the end of time
Petrel sings the domebells pound into the unended end of time
Petrel sings the domebells pound into the unended end of time

Midnight winds are landing at the end of time
Midnight winds are landing at the end of time
In the morning of my winter
When my eyes are still asleep
In the morning of my winter
When my eyes are still asleep
A dragonfly laying in a coat of snow
I'll send to kiss your heart for me
A dragonfly laying in a coat of snow
I'll send to kiss your heart for me

Midnight winds are landing at the end of time
Midnight winds are landing at the end of time
The children are jumping in the evening of light
The children are jumping in the evening of light
A thousand sins are heavy in the evening of light
A thousand sins are heavy in the evening of light

Midnight winds are landing at the end of time
Midnight winds are landing at the end of time

General CommentI dont know if I can quite gather a meaning from the lyrics...the song reminds me of a maypole ritual or a pagan ritual because as the song progresses it gets darker, I think this is another song about her affair with Jim morrison and his deaths impact on her. She seems to take alot of unrelated sentences from really old and beautiful poems and strings them together so that they sound good even if they are unrelated and random. If you've seen the short video excerpt on this song, it shows a bunch of crosses being burnt and nico and iggy and a bunch of other people carrying a casket. This song is amazing, it almost makes me mad at how unfair it is she got so little attention for her music.

My InterpretationI think this song is about the ruins of Berlin after the second world war ended and where Nico had spent some of her childhood. I think the whole idea of an Evening of Light, conjoures up an evening, illuminated by falling and exploding bombs. There is a lot of imagary that suggests endings, such as the line "End of Time" "Morning of my Winter" kind of like the winter days of Berlin and Germany as it fell.

It further makes sense with the final verse. The children jumping in the evening of light is about children fleeing the terror and the thousands sins being heavy is the mayhem going on and no doubt people who are taking advantage of the mayhem to commit sins of their own.
