"Getting Wise" as written by and Michael Tomlinson....
Oh, youre steeped in the winters chase
Even before the Tenenbaum has all dried up,
But Im going to teach to you different this time
Im awful clever as you almost certainly know.
Cos if you want to walk that way,
know that I will meet you there half way or none.
Yes Im going to teach you different in this life,
Theres more than one way to go through it, dont go it alone!

There are few who will know where their heart truly lie,
For the rest theres no hope: they can barely decide!
So a few um and ah so they never ever start!
So if you want my advice you dont have to ask me twice Ill tell you darling:

(And then we all say)
Were getting wise and finding our feet.

Steeped in the winters law, do you realize you ride with dreamers on your high horse?
Well Im gonna teach you different, of course;
You wouldnt act so clever if it werent for tomorrow.
And you want to walk that way, with all that virtue theres no hours left in the day!
Oh when all the sweat you break is just paying someone elses way,
Its fine to fall in line, if its for your own sake!

Or else run, you could hide, you could see what its like,
Youll soon find its no fun to have fun all the time!
Go find God in some form, let his love keep you warm,
Its entirely your call if he calls you.
But if you would desire in all things to be wise youll be none the wiser if you ever get there,
The truth of your idols is most of them died before anybody saw.

Yes there are few who will know where their hearts truly lie,
much less I, Im not nearly as clever as Id like.
So what I mean to say is I dont know what to say!
But listen

Were getting wise and finding our feet,
(and then we all say)
If you want to walk that way,
Were getting wise and finding our feet.
Were getting wiser well find out one of these days.
So walk.

If you want to walk that way,
Were getting wise and finding our feet.

I supremely dig this song, and I really wish I could find tabs for it somewhere, on guitar or piano. Awesome band.

General CommentNo matter how hard I try, I always think he's saying 'We're getting wise trying to find our feet' and even though these are the stock standard lyrics put on the band's site, I just lack the ability to hear 'We're getting wise and finding our feet' :( Lovely song! I love when he says 'awful clever'.

General CommentI had no idea what "find our feet" meant. So I asked my friend, and apparently it's an idiom that means becoming used to a new situation. So I suppose that this song is saying that being wise means you have to always be willing to try new things. So my interpretation would be "A lot of people don't know what they want in life because they haven't tried enough things to discover what makes them happy."
