"Toy Boy" as written by Michael Holbrook Penniman and Jodi Maureen Horovitz....
I'm a wind-up toy in an up down world
If you leave me all alone, I'll make a mess for sure
I've a heart of gold in the smallest size
Leave me in the dark, you'll never hear me cry

More than an illustration
Points of articulation
Come to life on a brass spring
Such a wonderful plaything

It's a cruel cross that I have to bear
If you come a little close I'm going to pull your hair
More than just a toy in a patch-blue suit
Hold me in your arms I'm just a boy like you

But your mama thought there was somethin' wrong
Didn't want you sleeping with a boy too long
It's a serious thing in a grown-up world
Maybe you'd be better with a Barbie girl

You knew that I adored ya
But you left me in Georgia
Toys are not sentimental
How could I be for rental?

She's the meanest hag that has ever been
Pulled out my insides with an old safety pin
I'm the sorest sight, now I feel like trash
Clothes are made of rags and they don't even match

So she dressed me up as the man she loved
Then threw me in a box when she had had enough
Now the light of day I no longer see
She stuck her voodoo pins where my eyes used to be

Accidentally tragic
Victim of her black magic
Had a boy once who loved me
Now he's so afraid of me

On a long lost day when you're gray and dull
You'll be there remembering your old toy boy
When your oldest son wonderin' what to be
Tell him the story of a boy like me

General Commentoow I love this song... : D

Mh.. I Think it is about a young man (who's probably a bisexual) who is in a relationship with another man.
And they really love each other but there are always people who are against them (the mama)and they are not accepted i society. and then somewhen the relationship breakes...

Then after some time he's in a relationship with a girl, but he is always thinking of his boy-lover and dont't really know if he wants to be with the girl. And the girl is trying to change him so he will be "the man of her dreams".
And he is starting to feel more and more like a toy.
He still hopes that his boy-lover thinks of him and that he is not ashamed of the time they where a couple...

(sorry if my english isn't thaat good.)

General CommentThis seems to be about the failed relationship between two young men. The lover's mother didn't approve, so the "Toy Boy" was dumped.

Sort of a simplistic explanation, I know, but that's the basic meaning.

These are the slightly different lyrics from the new EP:
    I'm a wind-up toy in an up-down world
If you leave me all alone I'll make a mess for sure
I've a heart of gold in the smallest size
leave me in the dark you'll never hear me cry

    More than (an illustration)
    Points of articulation
Come to life on a (brass spring)
    Such a wonderful plaything

It's a cruel cross that I have to bear
If you come a little closer, going to pull your hair
More than just a toy in a patched blue suit
Hold me in your arms I'm just a boy like you

But your mama thought there was something wrong
Didn't want you sleeping with a boy too long
    It's a serious thing in a grown-up world

But you left me in Georgia
    Toys are not sentimental
How could I be for rental

She's the meanest hag that has ever been
Pulled out my insides with a (new) safety pin
I'm the sorest sight, now I feel like trash
Clothes are made of rags and they don't even match

So she dressed me up as the man she loved
Threw me in a box when she had had enough
Now the light of day I no longer see
She stuck her voodoo pins where my eyes used to be

    Mmm... (etc)

General CommentI think the song is about a homosexual toy, who is in a happy "relationship" with a boy in the beginning. But then he is taken away from that boy by the mother who thinks that as the boy grows up he shouldn't be sleeping with a male doll. The rest of the song is about how he is taken to a girl who treats him bad and makes him into someone she wants him to be (a straight guy whose clothes don't even match - i think this piece about his clothes refers to homosexuals being said to have an eye for fashion) while he is in fact a gay doll. So not only is his life ruined by him not being able to lead his own life (he is a closeted homosexual, who is forced to have a "girl friend" who then tries to make him look like a straight guy), but also the boy he loved and used to sleep with is taught by his mother to be afraid of other guys when they come close. His mother taught him this and took away his male doll because homosexuality "is a serious thing in a grown-up world". So this is how homophobia is reproduced and people end up living very unhappy lives.

General CommentVery straightforward and tragic... the music perfectly depicts the life of a toy, which is perceived as a thing so happy but the lyrics, men, the lyrics kills everyone....

General CommentI completely agree with EisGirl
except that I don't think its about any young man. I know that his second album is an extension of his first album. The Boy Who Knew Too Much is an album where mika talks about his adolescent years. (The first album was about his childhood).

And like EisGirl said...he was with a boy and later got with a girl..thou I don't know who Mika has been with, he has admitted that he doesnt limit himself to one sex.

In a September 2009 interview in Gay & Night, Mika commented on his sexuality: "I've never ever labeled myself. But having said that; I've never limited my life, I've never limited who I sleep with... Call me whatever you want. Call me bisexual, if you need a term for me... You should be as free as you want."

    which further proves my point.

General CommentInteresting comments... So would the part that says

"Had a boy once who loved me
Now he's so afraid of me"

be about homophobia? The boy who never experienced any problems with being close with another (toy) boy was taught by his mother that this is not how it is supposed to be.

Anyway, this song is really catchy. Seriously. I love it.

I don't know about the actual songmeaning, but I like EisGirl's and pearjuice's.
