"Leaving on a jet plane" as written by and John Denver....
All my bags are packed, I'm ready to go,
I'm standing here outside the door
I hate to wake you up to say goodbye.
But the dawn is breakin', it's early morn',
The Taxi's waitin', he's blown his horn.
Already I'm so lonesome I could die.

I am leaving on a jet plane
Don't know if I'll be back again
Say won't you babe
I hate to go

There's so many times I've let you down,
So many times I've fooled around,
I tell you now they don't mean a thing.
Ev'ry song I sing I sing for you.
Ev'ry girl me lay I lay for you
When I come back I'll bring your wedding ring.

So kiss me and smile for me,
Tell me that you'll wait for me,
Hold me like you never let me go.
'Cause I'm leaving on a jet plane,

Don't know when I'll be back again.
Oh babe, I hate to go.

Fantastic song. Easy to interpret. He's saying he's leaving and maybe he won't come back. He's standing at the door of a woman who he has treated like crap. Cheating on her and what not. But he only loves her. He's trying to warn her that he is leaving. But also telling her if he does come back he'll marry her.
