This is about bronies. They communicate by stomping.
I've been habitually rubbing the sleep from my eyes,
I see the rain does not respect state lines, why should you?
And I've seen dirt dry fires arise by pissing boy fountain statues
And they say electricity, can travel up your piss stream
Oh am I too concerned with the burn of scrutiny?
Cold chased on run and covered like a horse before the race
Will I gain weight in later life?
And when will someone swing a scythe against me?
Out of every woman on earth, who will I mate with?
Or will I spit empty threats, until all that's left, is a million zeros printed on a roll of ticker-tape?
And one last echo of the final tiny wave in my wake?
Will all my unused seed collect like mercury, in some kind of afterlife for halves?
Should I offer up my lats and pecs as stakes in death?
Whatever the will of the people shall be, Ohio and me
But am I too concerned with the burn of scrutiny?
Cold chased on run and covered like a horse before the race
Will I gain weight in later life?
And when will someone swing a scythe against me?
Oh I'd rest in peace on a freshly cleaned and steamed plush carpet for sure,
In the vacant third floor of a department store
Or be hung with four nails on the projection wall
In an empty convention center banquet hall
That's right, I'm like everybody else is
Ashamed of sleep, I lie when a phone call wakes me
Oh am I too concerned with the burn of scrutiny?
Cold chased on run and covered like a horse before the race
Will I gain weight in later life?
And when will someone swing a scythe against me?
I see the rain does not respect state lines, why should you?
And I've seen dirt dry fires arise by pissing boy fountain statues

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday".
I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.

Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it.
“I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.

that's right - i, like everybody else, is ashamed of asleep. i lie when a phone wakes me.
amazing line.
"oh were you sleeping?" "no, i was just...watching tv, what's up?"
I think its halves because you need female seed too, theres only half the seed present
"I've been habitually rubbing the sleep from my eyes," you rub the sleep from your eyes when you think you're dreaming "I see the rain does not respect state lines, why should you?" California imports its water from other states. it can't support its society with its own natural resources "And I've seen dirt dry fires arise by pissing boy fountain statues" and California has wildfires in rich neighborhoods where the residents waste water on luxuries such as pissing boy fountain statues "And they say electricity, can travel up your piss stream" piss on electricity and get electrocuted... the residents of California are @#$*ing themselves over with their excess. Why?
I'm not going to tackle the entire song. It is far too dense. I'm going try my hand at the verse that I've found most perplexing, not only in understanding the words (i.e., what is he saying?), but the meanings behind the words as they sound to me.
The lyrics that I find most inscrutable are:
Upon a closer listen, it sounds to me like:
It would fit with his concerns about the burn of scrutiny: a horse before the race is not fully prepared. One who is not fully prepared for something will feel "the burn of scrutiny."
So, perhaps the comparison is that in some aspect of his life, he feels like that horse, unprepared, naked, and therefore subject to the burn of scrutiny.
The lyrics are about sex and death:
Is my future to procreate and grow old and fat or will i die childless? The lyric "And one last echo of the final tiny wave in my wake?" is a brilliant metaphor.
Various scenarios of death/ suicide/ martyrdom.
are you not sure it's "swing aside against me" - you know when you and someone else get on a swing and you swing in opposite directions. Sure seems the direction of the song, plus scythe isn't pronounced like that as far as I can tell.
It's definitely "Scythe." And yes, it is pronounced exactly like that. It rhymes with "tithe" and "blithe." Same vowel sound as in "Strive." It's a weapon you can swing at someone to cut them in half.
I just listened to it like 12 times, and honestly I find "aside" and "a scythe" equally possible. And both make sense. But I like the imagery of "swing aside" better, so I'm gonna sing it that way :]
i think "swing a scythe" makes considerably more sense in the context of the song and album.
Definitely scythe. Like the Grim Reaper
upon further review, yes, swing a scythe. I am a dumbass.
I do think it's scythe, but I like the idea of "swing aside against me" cause it evokes the imagery of childhoos, swinging alongside somebody on a swingset was called 'being married'. Anyone else remember that? Which fits into the whole "who will I mate with?" part. Haha it fits, abstractly, even if it's wrong :)
It's "a scythe" in the lyric booklet
such a good song.
The scythe line refers to death and the image of death as the Grim Reaper. He's asking when will he die? When will the reaper come for him with his scythe?
yeah, it's pretty obviously "scythe."
"i've seen the rain" and "will i gain weight, and later life?"
