"Happiness" as written by and John Klemmer....
drowning in the lake
i only left her for a couple o' seconds

and now she's gone

waking up
for what?
as I pace back and forth
maybe its time to move away
but what would that prove anyway?

listening to the answer machine
over and over
only to hear your voice one more time
just one more time

its not your fault
thats what they all keep saying
blaming myself
there's nothing left
why do I bother praying?

beg me for direction
like I have all the answers
i neglected her life
so now what
what do I do with mine?

listening to the answer machine
over and over
only to hear your voice one more time
just one more time

its not your fault
thats what they all keep saying
blaming myself
there's nothing left
why do I bother praying?

drowning in the lake
i only left her for a couple o' seconds

drowning in the lake
i only left her for a couple o' seconds
drowning drowning

General CommentIt's about a mother letting here child swim in the lake, neglecting her shortly and trying to cope with her daughter's death.

My Interpretationok, well the "drowning in the lake" part seems like some sort of symbol or something, a metaphor. but i'm guessing it's about how this guy(or girl, take it as you wish) is coping with the loss of their loved one, listening to their answering machine so they could hear their voice, cuz they know they can never hear them again, and (s)he keeps blaming himself/herself, and they tell him/her it's not his/her fault.

in other parts of the song, he/she is comtemplating on moving to another city, or somewhere, but doesn't understand what that would prove, the pain would stay with them inside, and they are looking for direction, and he/she realizes that their loved always looked to them for directions, like they knew all the answers...

i think the title means they're looking for happiness when their world is lost.

wow i haven't heard the whole album, i've heard about four songs, but this seems like a really depressing album, lol. considering the whole happiness title. self blame, treachery, hypocrisy, wow, lol.

General CommentI know it makes more sense for it to see "blaming myself" but it sounds more like "blaming my sight"

    "It's not your fault"
That's what they all keep saying.
    Blaming my sight,
    There's nothing left.
    Why do I bother praying?

I dunno. I've been listening to it a lot, and it doesn't sound like "myself".

General Commentidk, i'm hearing "blaming myself", and i keep listening to these songs on a daily basis.

and wereachthesound, where'd you get that quote? i'm not denying you, but still, if you're right then that could mean the whole message machine thing is that mom and daughter recorded a message machine thing together.

but it seems more logical to me that they got the inspiration for this song from that...i mean, dgd's lyrics aren't specific to one thing, now are they? they always have two sides to each song, like a story...lol, dgd is an awesome storyteller...

General Commentzac frequently posts things about dgd on a couple of sites and that is what he had to say about happiness' lyrics. also the daughter mustve left a message on her moms answering machine before she died

General Commenti think the "drowning in the lake, i only left her for a couple of seconds" part refers to a guy not paying attention to his girlfriend or neglecting her. she ends up "drowning," which either refers fireclty to her leaving, or to her becoming drowned emotionally or something. either way, she ends up leaving him and he obviously regrets it, and the rest of the song is pretty self explanatory. he seems to be justifying with himself like "i only left her for a little bit. how did this happen?"
