Open your mind, don't let it slip
And take you on a midnight ride this wicked
Everyone around here comes here feelin'
Fed up with the way their wounds are healin'

Take me to a place where doors are open
A lovely little place where no one's broken
Welcome to the world of "No One's Listening"
Just wanna break out, and escape this prison

Bring me to life
Breathe air into me
It's taken me my whole life to realize
All the things I've never seen

Bring me to life
Breathe air into me
Take me from the darkness that I've been in
Cause I just want to be free

Bring me to life!
Bring me to life!

Come on, start your engines, flip that switch
And take it to the limit if you ride like this
And if you feel alive, then pump your fists
Cause there's no turning back when the energy hits

Down comes the rain like a hurricane
Hard to breathe, like a storm hangin' over me
Coming to get me, but I don't have to let it in
I stand up, face my fears like an enemy

Bring me to life
Breathe air into me
It's taken me my whole life to realize
All the things I've never seen

Bring me to life
Breathe air into me
Take me from the darkness that I've been in
Cause I just want to be free

And I've been wanting to break out
You helped me figure out
That I could come to life and turn this thing around

Been wanting to break out
You helped me figure out
That I could come to life and turn this thing around

Shut it, if you're talkin to me
I'm sick and tired of all your lies
And what you want me to be

Just shut it, if you're talkin to me
I'm sick and tired of all your lies
And what you want me to be

Just shut it! If you're talkin to me
I'm sick and tired of all your lies
And what you want me to be

Just shut it! If you're talkin to me
I'm sick and tired of all your lies
And what you want me to be

What you want me to be..

Bring me to life
Breathe air into me
It's taken me my whole life to realize
All the things I've never seen

Bring me to life
Breathe air into me
Take me from the darkness that I've been in
Cause I just want to be free

General CommentI think that this song is about how here on earth, we're not going to satisfied with the state of everything as is and that we can't make it on our own strength.

The song opens with the speaker coming to God, and then says "Everyone around here comes here feelin'/Fed up with the way their wounds are healin'". the song goes on to say, "Take me to a place where doors are open/A lovely little place where no one's broken", which obviously refers to heaven. He asks God to take him out of his hell into something worth living for.

The chorus just reflects asking God for strength to keep going and to get out of their "personal" hell or prison. "Bring Me to life/Breathe air into me". The aggressive repetition of the "Bring me to life" line shows the desperation of the speaker wanting to get out that hell/prison.

The second verse opens with the now revived speaker going to do what he set out to do. However, a personal storm/trial is attacking and trying to bring down the speaker, but he obviously stands his ground and continues on. The speaker thanks God in the bridge for his strength "You helped me figure out/That I could come to life and turn this thing around", but then comes the devil with an attack against him. He rebukes Satan over and over again, with the vocals growing more and more aggressive as he repeats the stanza.

The song then ends with the battle won and overcome.

General CommentI like how Trevor's lyrical style is always very straightforward and confrontational. A lot of awesome bands (Demon Hunter off the top of my head) write great poetry, but there lyrics don't always resonate as well with the general listener. Trevor writes in a poetic sense some of the time, for instance, "down comes the rain" and "c'mon, start your engines, flip that switch", but even those are very understandable as metaphorical for perhaps an addiction and coming to life, respectively. I think that Trevor's realism and straightforward approach in lyrical writing (There are exceptions, of course, in their music) resonates with people a lot deeper then big poetic words. He's always encouraging to. Now on to the meaning of the song itself. To me, the song acts in a fourfold way. First, and foremost, it is a prayer to God to help the titular person through some sort of addiction. Indeed, beyond God helping him through, he wants God to bring him to life and take him from his situation. Some of the most obvious prayer lines are the chorus and the second half of the first verse. Secondly, it is an encouragement to take the some steps yourself "C'mon, start your engines, flip that switch.....and if your feeling life then pump your fist". Thirdly, it is a thank you to God for his help. "And I've been wanting to break out, you helped me figure out, that I could come to life and turn this thing around". And lastly, it is a rebuke of anything that's holding him down. Could be Satan, could be the addiction, could be himself. "Just shut it, if your talking to me. I'm sick and tired of all your lies and what you want me to be." This song resonates with me very strongly, because although I'm not addicted to drugs or porn or alcohol, I'm addicted to me. I'm also addicted to laziness. So this song has become my daily prayer, that God would help me break out and come to life. Not for my sake, but for His glory alone.

General CommentI also love Trevor's lyrical style... I think that is the reason why I find myself drawn to their music more than, say Pillar, because it seems like the way Trevor sings every song like he means it, and yet, it's meant specifically for you...
