"Tigerlily" as written by and Ben Langmaid Elly Jackson....
Well tonight out on the streets I'm gonna follow you
And tell you all about a scene that you would kill for
You're gonna love what's running right in front of you
But you won't see it by the light of the sun
Come out tigerlily, you're caressing me
I'll take you up, I'll turn you on, I'll take your apathy
I wouldn't lie to you blossom, won't you let it go
I'm gonna give you what you want and don't you know (That you)

I know you better than this
I could be here when you call
I'll make you top of the list
And in the crash of the dark
I'll be your light in the mist
I can see you burning with desire for a kiss
Psychobabble all upon your lips

They can sell it all they want but you cannot agree
I don't like the taste of damn morality
You'll find your bread and you butter where you fake it
And put your face in the gutter of a snake pit
But out communication is telepathy
What you give is what you get out of us naturally
And we can wait 'til the shadow rolls along
And turn the page of the story that has long since found a home

I know you better than this
I could be here when you call
I'll make you top of the list
And in the crash of the dark
I'll be your light in the mist
I can see you burning with desire for a kiss
Psychobabble all upon your lips

Have you ever felt like you're being followed?
Or watched the ones that held your stare?
Turned around to see who's behind you to find there's no one there
Pra-lurking in the dark is someone who breathes you night and day
There's a friend who wants so much more
But if they can't have you, they'll never let you walk away

And in the crash of the dark
I'll be your light in the mist
I can see you burning with desire for a kiss

And in the crash of the dark
I'll be your light in the mist
I can see you burning with desire for a kiss
Psychobabble all upon your lips

General CommentThis song seems to be about stalking, specifically unrequited love. The interesting part is that the lyrics grow more ominous as the song progresses:

    I'll take your apathy
I wouldn't lie to you Blossom
    Won't you let it go
I'm gonna give you all you want

It almost looks like a plea for "Tigerlily" to love this person, as they have so much to offer. "Let it go" implies that Tigerlily has rejected their love, and thus comes the chorus:

I know you better than this

Psychobabble all upon your lips <... even though you deny it>

The love continues to get turned down, and it gets even more obsessive / threatening:

I don't like the taste Of their morality

You'll find your bread and your butter Where you fake it

And put your face in the gutter Of a snake pit

When Tigerlily continues to turn the person down, the person makes even more insistent statements:

    But our communication Is telepathy
And we can wait til the shadow grows long

And it finally reaches the point of obsession / creepiness:

And if they can't have you
They'll never let you walk away

    It's definitely an interesting song.

General CommentThis song is definately about stalking.

I think a girl, nicknamed Tigerlily, is being stalked by a person obsessed with her, someone she knows, a friend possibly. And the stalker thinks the feelings are mutual, but it isn't.

"And in the crush of the dark
I'll be your light in the mist
I can see you burning with desire
    For a kiss
    Psychobabble all upon your lips"

the stalker saying that he/she will always be their for Tigerlily and the 'psychobabble' is Tigerlily objecting and saying 'No'.

General CommentI think "tigerlily" is Elly because look at a picture of a tigerlily it looks just like her hair, therefore "come out tigerlily" could refer to the other person telling her to come out.

General CommentI think it's describing the tango of having a crush on someone. Cat and mouse.

    "But our communication
    Is telepathy
What you give is what you get"

    "Have you ever felt
    Like you're being followed?
Or watched the ones that held your stare?
Turned around to see who's behind you
To find there's no one there?"

You feel like someone's watching you, but they pretend not to be looking when you catch them.

    "Lurking in the dark
There's someone who breathes you night and day
There's a friend who wants so much more
And if they can't have you
They'll never let you walk away"

Possibly unrequited love? Becoming obssessed to the point where it's unhealthy.

"I can see you burning with desire
    For a kiss"

"I know you better than this
I could be here when you call
I'll make you top of the list"

The other person WANTS to do something, but they're holding themselves back, and you're waiting for them to make their move, knowing when they finally do so, you'll welcome it warmly.

In short, a fantastic song. the techno is haunting: in a good way, of course. Really addictive.

General CommentI remember reading somewhere that the flower Tigerlily means something along the lines of "I dare you to love me" if you give it to someone.

General Commenttotally about stalking i mean,

tonight out on the street i'm going to follow you

kind of sounds like stalking to me. and then when,

have you ever felt like your being followed

does that not sound like someone stalking another person??? maybe she's stalkng this person that
does't like the way she likes that person.

General CommentI know it sounds a tad stalkerish, but I don't think it's about stalking someone. As someone said besfore, the Tiger Lily is a show of female courage and possible aggression, and can mean "I dare you to love me". I think her Tiger Lily in this song is someone who has been playing games with her, acting as though they care and then withdrawing - playing hard to get basically. And now she's decided she has to make the next move, and the song is about her doing so. It's like a challenge - "Come on then, if you want me, here I am."

My InterpretationThis song is so creepy and I LOVE it.

I'm still not sure if the character that Elly is portraying in the song is actually her or just a hypothetical "somebody" to play the character for this awesome song. Regardless, the parts that Elly sings describes a character (hereafter referred to as "her" or "she") that is trying to impress her target, unbeknownst to her that what she's doing is very creepy and stalkerish.

Throughout the whole song the listener is led to believe that she's being romantic, thoughtful, and understanding, albeit pushy and persistent. But as soon after the pause, the man creates a build-up singing the lyrics that make you slowly realize that, "holy shit, he's describing her. She's actually being fucking creepy". Now that the listener knows the extent of how creepy she's actually been throughout the entire song, Elly then repeats the chorus a final time after the pause creating an uncomfortably chilling ending.

"Well tonight out on the streets I'm gonna follow you
And tell you all about a scene that you would kill for
You're gonna love what's running right in front of you
But you won't see it by the light of the sun"

From her perspective, this is her introducing to us the classic trope of people being put in the "friend zone" when she describes that her target (hereafter referred to as "him" or "he", to avoid confusion) is going to love what's in front of him but he won't ever see it because he was blinded by the friend zone.

"Come out tigerlily, you're caressing me
I'll take you up, I'll turn you on, I'll take your apathy
I wouldn't lie to you blossom, won't you let it go
I'm gonna give you what you want and don't you know...that you..."

She's trying different ways to convince him to reciprocate her feelings and she's even settled with just his apathy for now. She's trying to get him to "let it go" and just be with her.

"I know you better than this
I could be here when you call
I'll make you top of the list
And in the crash of the dark
I'll be your light in the mist
I can see you burning with desire for a kiss
    Psychobabble all upon your lips"

The chorus is describing how good she will be to him. She firmly believes that he's just playing hard to get or just afraid to be with her for some reason because she sees him "burning with desire for a kiss" spouting psychobabble to make up excuses as to why he doesn't want to be with her.

"They can sell it all they want but you cannot agree
I don't like the taste of -their- morality
You'll find your bread and -your- butter where you fake it
And put your face in the gutter of a snake pit
    But -our- communication is telepathy
What you give is what you get out of us naturally
And we can wait 'til the shadow rolls along
And turn the page of the story that has long since found a home"

I take the first few stanzas as her singing about how whatever everyone is saying to try and stop their relationship from happening is wrong. You'll get by if you fake it and roll with the norm but you're also putting yourself in a snake pit by not being true to yourself. But nevermind what everyone else thinks because their communication is telepathy and she understands him and she knows that what he actually wants is to be with her despite all the people trying to caution him about her. So she's determined to wait however long it takes to finally be with him because it was basically destiny for her as she sings that she's waiting to "turn the page of the story that has long since found a home".

"Have you ever felt like you're being followed?
Or watched the ones that held your stare?
Turned around to see who's behind you to find there's no one there
Pra-lurking in the dark is someone who breathes you night and day
There's a friend who wants so much more
But if they can have you, they'll never let you walk away"

    Yep. Creeeepy.
