i am a man that does not have a way.
millions of oceans can show me, you say.
we still run around like there's no better way,
and i don't stay.

so last night when you threw the glass on the wall,
you realized the end would be following.
you don't say what you mean when you need me to go.
so just know...

out on the highway in the desert unknown.
i'll find a way to get back to you, though.
i still run around like i don't have a home
cause even when i'm around, i've got no place to go.

and i know i'm not what you need,
but it's okay--yeah it's okay with me.

so how can i tell you i need you to stay?
i've done it before, it don't mean anything.

and i still wait around to see if they'll let me go
through heaven's doors, alone.

and i know i'm not what you need,
but it's okay--yeah it's okay with me.
yeah i realize it is settling,
but it's okay--yeah it's okay with me.
i'm not who i've led you to believe,
but it's okay--yeah it's okay with me.
yeah i realize it is settling,
but it's okay--yeah it's okay with me.
because you're the thing that makes me settling,
so i'm okay with me, if you're okay with me.
cause i know you're not what i need,
but you're okay with me, yeah you're okay with me.

yeah you're okay with me.

General CommentI almost cry every time I hear this song. I can relate to it perfectly.

There are times when you care about someone very deeply and are tempted to stay with them even though you know it's not right. Neither of you are getting quite what you need from each other, but staying is easier than starting over.

The relationship isn't bad, but it isn't what it should be.

General CommentI think the song is about staying with someone, even though you both feel you could have someone better.

General CommentI think it's about being with someone who you feel is so much better than you, and deserves so much more. "And I still wait around to see if they'll let me go through heaven's doors alone." He's afraid he's not good enough without them.

General Commentthis song has the same vibe as coca-cola by brand new. i think it's the hallow sound that andys voice has, as well as the guitar. solid song nonetheless.

General CommentI think its more than just an inadequate relationship. The speaker is "settling", so its not that they could be with someone better, its that they can't. There is no one else, so the relationship isn't the problem, its the fear of being alone.

Each time they have a fight (mentioned in the first verses), they want out, but where to go - "i still run around like i don't have a home, cause even when i'm around, i've got no place to go."

But now the speaker's lover has had enough - she is okay with facing the loneliness - "so how can i tell you i need you to stay?" - but he is not. Thus he wonders if god or fate or whatever will actually allow him to die alone, which essentially says that his choices are to be alone, or "settle." And without the person he settled for, its obvious which choice he is left with.

A very sad song, in the least.

General CommentThe relationship is with God. I think most people don't realize this when they listen to Andy Hull's music, but a LOT of his songs are about his relationship with God, or his feelings towards God. His father and his grandfather were both ministers and when his father passed away, he started getting angry towards God and losing his faith and relationship with God. For those of you who don't understand the concept of a relationship with God, then you won't understand half of his lyrics correctly. He throws in little "natural" things referring to other happenings...for example, "when you threw the glass on the wall"...

The reason I love Andy Hull so much is because, unlike most Christians who sing about God, Andy sings about his struggle with God which EVERY Christian has. No one has a perfect relationship with Christ because there is no such thing. Andy shows his anger and discontentment. I love it.
