"Close" as written by and Michael William/sellers Dulaney....
It's just another simple voice mail message
I'll pick you up and we'll do dinner by the fire
And we'll watch it snow
It's from a year ago
Baby I love you and I can't wait to see you tonight
I've been thinking 'bout you all day long
She pushes nine to save
She still can't erase

'Cause it makes her feel close
Makes her smile it's like he's with her almost
Till the tears take over she's still in hell
But she tells herself she's ready to let him go
Cause that makes her feel close

It's just a worn out Notre Dame t-shirt
She's gotten mad and tried to throw
That thing away at least a hundred times
But she's got it on tonight
He used to wear it on the weekend just running around
Probably he forgot he even left it behind
She says it keeps her warm
Oh, but it's so much more

It makes her feel close
Makes her smile it's like he's with her almost
Till the tears take over
She's still in hell
But she tells herself
She's ready to let him go
Cause that makes her feel close

Just sayin' goodbye
Getting on with her life
Maybe give love another try
One more try
One more try

It makes her feel close
Makes her smile it's like he's with her almost
Till the tears take over
She's still in hell
But she tells herself
She's ready to let him go
'Cause that makes her feel close

My InterpretationThis song I believe is about this girl's boyfriend who died (or broken up, I think died makes more sense) and she's still in hell about him dying but wants to let him go so bad to make the hurt go away. The notre dame tshirt and the voicemail message are the only sources of rememberence she has of him. No matter how hard she tries to stop loving him she can't so when she gets this feeling she listens to his voice and wears his shirt to make her feel closer to him in heaven.

I love this song so much.

General CommentI agree with everything, ms1234, except that its just about them breaking up because it talks about him forgetting he left his t-shirt behind.

General CommentI think that this song is a little too upbeat to be talking about death. i think it's about a girl who was/still is in love with someone but they broke up, and she just isn't over it. amazing song though. rascal flatts are great!

General Commenti think this is about a girl who desperately wants to get over an ex, but knows that she isn't, but she doesn't the guy to know she isn't moving on so she tells people she is close to being over him when it's not at all true.
