"The Stupid, The Proud" as written by and Chris Corner....
God is dead,
We get to sleep tonight,
Walk with me into the truth,
Out of your lies.

Man equals woman.
I'm just the messenger don't shoot me down.

The army, so faithful,
The killers of reason,
The grief for the crown.

The stupid, the proud,
They blow our houses down!
The stupid, the proud,
They blow our houses down!

Exalt yourself,
Do it to stay alive.
Serve your duty,
You must demand, they must abide.
Queer is the universe,
Habit the liberty, destructive in time,
Hunt down your future
and everything you know is not enough to survive!

The stupid, the proud,
They blow our houses down!
The stupid, the proud,
They blow our houses down!

General CommentThis sounds so good. The cd has an amazing order. Nature of Inviting is great as the starting number, Running is excellent closing number, and The stupid, the Proud, with the slow guitar melody, is perfect after the wildness of Think of England. I think maybe the song is about war or something. The king is to proud to give in, but he's also stupid for same reason. That results in massive destructions, but he doesn't care, cause he must demand, they must abide.

General CommentChris says this song has to do with organised religion, which would make sense.

Am I the only person who thinks it's very similar to President? The lyrics of President speak out against conformity and blindly following conventions, and this song attacks blind faith and dedication to religion, which can be similar. Both messages are delivered in a taunting way. This song, however, is more malicious, and musically darker. It's like the same idea behind President more focused and multiplied in intensity.

I love it. If I were to arrange this album in order of preference, this would be in the top 3.

General CommentThis is about religion, conservatism, repression, sexism- all horrible things that 'blow our houses down.' I especially like the lines 'God is dead' - a clear reference to Nietzche- and 'the killers of reason.' But all the lyrics are superb, really. A beautiful song. So freaking rare. And so powerful. The stupid and proud, indeed.

General CommentThis song is about the conformity in which are minds bite off of. We are the killers of reason and our beliefs in religion is what 'blows our houses down.' The war-like phrases are what make us forget that 'God is dead' throughout their statements of intensity. With that said, there are many dark nights that elude us just like the Kind who eludes his own need to be intelligent. Just like the president that shouldn't dictate to the point of squandering over other people's beliefs. Just to the point that the president is in a way similar to "God' because there is an unorthodox way to control the civilians or control THE children. The children of sexism, destruction, religion and other terrible, terrible ideas. We are all repressed children be it by the belief in our imaginative deity or the president--a solidified human being who will most likely lack morals. (quite often times that is the case.) We will not want to change the way our society is but instead keep it in charge of past similarity in order to keep it set. We will oppose all natural changes and behave and charge the hands of humanity via war, despite, hatred, and all other old concepts that bite us today.

General CommentHad a feeling it was about the dangers of arrogance... Then it seems to hint that society encourages arrogance (masquerading as confidence/bravery). "Exalt yourself, Do it to stay alive." Then "everything you know is not enough to survive" saying you can be intelligent but it is not as important as dedication to your beliefs no matter how ludicrous.
