"Wide Awake" as written by Marco Biazzi, Marco Coti Zelati, Andrea Gaetano Ferro, Christiano Migliore, Cristiano Mozzati, Cristina Scabbia and Don Gilmore....
The rebel inside a mind of my own
I haven't felt right since the moment that I gave up
I challenged my limits, I'm feeling I'm becoming limitless
I take it all and inhale

I'm wide awake
I open my eyes and the sky's so blue
All of a sudden I know that I treasure my life
I find myself wide awake like you

The struggle within now I understand
Freedom begins when you get out of the cage you built
It looks like I'm crazy but I know I'm not the only one
To believe in myself, believe in myself, I won't becoming undone

'Cause I feel like I'm wide awake
I open my eyes and the sky's so blue
All of a sudden I know that I treasure my life
I find myself wide awake like you

I'm wide awake
I open my eyes and the sky's so blue
All of a sudden I know that I treasure my life
All of a sudden I know that I treasure my life
Like you

General CommentThis is my favorite song off Shallow Life. Cristina's vocals are AMAZING in this song. And the beauty of the lyrics. I agree, it's realizing the beauty of life and how it's ok to love your life.

    General CommentThis verse:
    I challenged my limits
    I'm feeling (...)
    I take it all in
    And in (...)

    Should be:
    I challenged my limits
    I'm feeling I'm becoming limitless
    I take it all in
    And inhale

I love this song and it's definitely one of my favourites from Shallow Life.
I think it's about realizing the beauty of life.

General CommentThis is such a beautiful song, I can`t get enough of it.
I just recently moved to Finland so I could get away from my life and find myself and this song really seems to encompass everything I feel... how I treasure my life so much more, how I built a cage for myself and it`s so liberating now that I set myself free... everything about this song is just perfect to describe how my life has changed in the last month.

General CommentAlong with "To Myself I Turned", this has to be Christina's best vocal performance with the band. She sounds so amazing in this song, and I'm glad this is one of the hopeful, uplifting songs; a nice break from some of the angsty dark songs.

My InterpretationThe idea behind this song can easily relate to being incarcerated for like months, then being released into society. It's like your whole outlook on life has changed dramatically because you know you barely survived that experience. There were times you dreamt of being outside only to wake up in hell. The message this song conveys is that your being set free is a gift. The thing you did to get locked up -whatever it may be was a rebellious act-it was inside of you at the time. A suicidal thought would indicate giving up for sure. Knowing your limits is key to reforming your attitude and not to merely exist without purpose. Steering clear of temptation, most importantly to know you can never be above the law 100% of the time. "Like you" can refer to a loved one you've been away from for so long, now that you're together again you're equal to that person now-your humanity is intact. Before, you were broken. if so, you can be fixed.
