At last alone, his fire's dying
Burned another day
Now to pretend
and make up an ending
somewhere far away

He reached for a book all bound in leather
something that he knows he's never read
and the first page says beware you've found the answer
the next one says I wish you were dead!

Don't go on, put it back
You're reading from the Bible Black!

What's this word I see
Who are you and who are me
Maybe I just stumbled in the dark

I must have been out cold
but the way the story's told
They found me lying naked in the rain..yeah

Let me go I've seen relegion
But the light has left me blind
Take me back
I must have the Bible Black!

Well here I go again
From the start to the end
I wish I could remember what I've done

Now here's another spell
it could take me straight to hell
and I feel I'm getting closer to my home

Let me go I've found addiction
and it makes me feel alive
Take me back
I must have the Bible Black!

He locks himself away and tastes the silence
Hungry for another bite of wrong
and just the words "oh Lord please take me with you"
Took him to a place we don't belong

Let him go!
he can't come back
he's reading the Bible Black!

So if your fire's dying
and what's the use of trying?
I may have know another place that you can go

It's hiding in the pages
but you may not come back
you're reading from the Bible Blaaaack!!!

General Commentprobably the song has nothing to do with religion or occultism at all and the whole story is just a metaphor. i think the bible black is a metaphor for drugs. first he even talks about addiction in the song, second the first verses tell about a depressed guy who finds a way to escape his misery but then he got lost in it.

General CommentI think this song is actually criticism towards the heavy metal bands who promote satanism, most of which unwittingly enable devil worship to drive more of the youth, who have abandoned spirituality to turn towards the dark side, that fate which most of said bands also suffered. The "bible black" represents the satanic bible, and so satanism.

Song MeaningFrom wikipedia: "According to Dio, the song deals with a man who is addicted to a book which wreaks havoc on him."
Possibly based on the guy from the visual novel and anime series of the same name? i'm not so sure anyone from H&H will have heard of it but that's the only other Bible Black I've heard of.

General CommentI think at the basic level its about someone very holy, very good, being corrupted by evil and ruining himself to the point of no return.
The music video shows an angel finding the Bible Black and it drags him down and even though he attempts to make it back into heaven, he can't leave the book behind and he becomes a demon.
This is such a heavy song that reaks of the kind of evil only Black Sabbath can create.
I don't care that they're with Dio, they'll always be Black Sabbath.
    Black Sabbith IS heavy metal!

Song MeaningThis song is about a depressed Christian who gets involved on several features from the Occult and Satanism, losing his Soul at the end of the song. This lyrics and concept resemble the one from "Too Late" (Dehumanizer Album, Black Sabbath).

General CommentI love the fact that people are so anal that they got to be right.

Part of it is to do with religion and drug use, but it isn't to do with the light or dark side, i personally think its to do with the character trying all the things that been denied to him, due to religion. And since the holier then thou group don't like it, its seems thats hes gone over to the dark side and can't come back because he doesn't want to

General CommentI used to think it was about this guy who finds the satanic bible and goes crazy. But now, I think it's about drug abuse. The bible black being the drug and this poor soul becomes devoted to it. It's basically a song about drug issues disguised in religious lyrics. This religion fools this weak minded soul just like a drug does. Y'know what? Now that I'm thinking about it, it's about neither. It's just about obsession in general. Who knows, really. Dio wanted you to make up your own mind what it meant. So, I could be right, I'm most likely wrong, but we'll never know. It's not like we can ask Ronnie what the fuck he was talking about.
