In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
(Cross these words right off the sheet)
So you've become a father of both,
When did prothesis take over?
I only wish we could recover,
Recover what we've lost
This transitive thought reminds me of falling backwards
I only wish there was a way,
A way to reverse the promise that we made
Indifference afflicts every page of earth,
you'd write had you anyway,
I only wish there was a way,
A way to reverse the promise that we made,
Evolution has, evolution has changed
Tirelessly fighting for this,
becomes a coping method
And pendulum,
this falling motion has brought you close to her,
to her,
Perpetual,
Indescision is destructive
But the synthesis will create again
Tirelessly fighting for this has become a coping method
Pendulum
With willingness,
With willinginess to live
Take a bow,
The pressure in your lungs' in paradigm,
I only wish there was a way,
A way to reverse the promise that we made
Indifference afflicts every page of earth,
you'd write had you anyway,
I only wish there was a way,
A way to reverse the promise that we made,
Evolution has, evolution has changed
Let's begin
Where love left us, where love left us.

This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version.
Great version of a great song,
Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
is this an old lead singer? or the guitarist? idk i like the song either way
Yeah it's from back when VE was actually a decent band and had Spencer as lead.
btw, thanks to whoever cleared up those lyrics ^^ =)
hell no Sierra is way better that the male vocalist.... and they are a better band with Sierra... so shut up....
I'll have to agree with letsXgoXswimming though, not that I don't enjoy some of their song with Sierra, just preferred old VE as well over new VE...

Anyway, this song's pretty much straightforward, obviously about a failing relationship...
