I was born in the arms of imaginary friends
Free to roam, made a home out of everywhere I've been
Then you come crashing in, like the realest thing
Trying my best to understand all that your love can bring

Oh half of my heart's got a grip on the situation
Half of my heart takes time
Half of my heart's got a right mind to tell you
That I can't keep loving you (can't keep loving you)
Oh, with half of my heart

I was made to believe I'd never love somebody else
I made a plan, stay the man who can only love himself
Lonely was the song I sang, 'till the day you came
Showing me a another way and all that my love can bring

Oh half of my heart's got a grip on the situation
Half of my heart takes time
Half of my heart's got a right mind to tell you
That I can't keep loving you (can't keep loving you)
Oh, with half of my heart

With half of my heart

Your faith is strong
But I can only fall short for so long
Down the road, later on
You will hate that I never gave more to you than half of my heart
But I can't stop loving you
(I can't stop loving you)
I can't stop loving you
(I can't stop loving you)
I can't stop loving you with half of my

Half of my heart
Oh, half of my heart
Half of my heart's got a real good imagination
Half of my heart's got you
Half of my heart's got a right mind to tell you
That half of my heart won't do

Half of my heart is a shotgun wedding
To a bride with a paper ring
And half of my heart is the part of a man
Who's never truly loved anything

Half of my heart
Oh, half of my heart
Half of my heart
Oh, half of my heart
Half of my heart
Oh, half of my heart

    Song Meaning

I think the meaning of this song its very simple, it's about a man who's divided because one part of him love this woman, but the other part doesn't.

"I was born in the arms of imaginary friends Free to roam, made a home out of everywhere I've been"

He was a free and lonely man, that do whatever he wants to do.

"Then you come crashing in, like the realest thing Trying my best to understand all that your love can bring"

Then this woman appears and change everything, leaving him confused...

"Oh, half of my heart's got a grip on the situation Half of my heart takes time Half of my heart's got a right mind to tell you That I can't keep loving you Oh, with half of my heart"

And a part of him is rational and know that he can't love her completely.

"I was made to believe I'd never love somebody else Made a plan, stay the man who can only love himself"

He thinks that he never would love somebody, and would be always lonely and just love himself.

"Lonely was the song I sang, until the day you came Showing me another way and all that my love can bring"

Then this woman showed him that it don't have to be this way, and he discovered that he could love somebody else.

"Your faith is strong But I can only fall short for so long Down the road, later on You will hate that I never gave more to you Than half of my heart"

But he can only give her a part of his love, he can't completely fall in love whit her.

"But I can't stop loving you With half of my . . ."

But this part cannot stop loving her.

"Half of my heart's got a real good imagination Half of my heart's got you Half of my heart's got a right mind to tell you That half of my heart won't do Half of my heart is a shotgun wedding to a bride with a paper ring"

This part of him is impulsive and passionate.

"And half of my heart is the part of a man who's never truly loved anything"

And the other part will always be the lonely man who can't love.

Sorry if I wrote something wrong, english is not my language...

    My Interpretation

I will break it down by stanza with what I think it means.

I was born in the arms of imaginary friends free to roam, made a home out of everywhere I've been then you come crashing in, like the realest thing trying my best to understand all that your love can bring

he is saying that nothing has been real to him and hes settled throughout his life for whatever came along until she came into his life and everything became real to him and nothing like he's ever experienced before he was trying to figure out why she was with him and why she believed in him and how much her love can bring to him

I was made to believe I'd never love somebody else made a plan, stay the man who can only love himself lonely was the song I sang, 'til the day you came showing me another way and all that my love can bring

this is pretty self explanatory he thought he wouldnt be capable of loving another person and spent his time alone until it became habit but the loneliness only came into perspective when he found out what he was missing she showed him another way to think about things and himself and believe in what he has to offer in a relationship

your faith is strong but I can only fall short for so long down the road, later on you will hate that I never gave more to you than half of my heart

she believed that he could eventually love with his whole heart and that he would get to that point so she believed in him and what he had to offer but he always felt like he was falling short for her and felt that she deserved better so he was tired of feeling like he was disappointing her but he could only love with half of his heart because he was afraid of what giving his whole heart would do to him if he truly loved and lost so he gave her up and she will hate that he gave up, but he believes hes doing the best thing for her but he cant truly give her up because he cant let her go

half of my heart is a shot gun wedding to a bride with a paper ring and half of my heart is the part of a man who's never truly loved anything

this is just saying that half of his heart is not worthy of her and basically is just crappy, like a shot gun wedding with a paper ring, totally inferior and not fit for someone he loves, so there is a part of him that thinks he isn't good enough for her

and then he looks inside himself and wonders if he's ever truly loved anything and what it all means

its a truly beautiful song that has a strong meaning to me

Really, no one got this song but "xoxotinaxoxo"? I thought the song is awesome and pretty self-explanatory. Here's what I got from it:

"I was born in the arms of imaginary friends free to roam, made a home out of everywhere I've been then you come crashing in, like the realest thing trying my best to understand all that your love can bring"

He was by himself, don't have to worry about anything, go anywhere, does anything. Then he met her, and he gave it a shot to see maybe her love will change him.

"oh, half of my heart's got a grip on the situation half of my heart takes time half of my heart's got a right mind to tell you that I can't keep loving you (can't keep loving you) oh with half of my heart"

Oh but only half of his heart really figured it out, that this is a good thing, and the other half is slow on the uptake, still has no idea what's going on. The smart half of his heart, which understood this love, and understand that he can't lie to her, and has to tell her that he could never lover her "fully".

"I was made to believe I'd never love somebody else made a plan, stay the man who can only love himself lonely was the song I sang, 'til the day you came showing me another way and all that my love can bring"

He never thought he could love anyone, but himself. He was lonely, and then she came, and she shows him that it's possible for him to love, and he would be good at it.

"your faith is strong but I can only fall short for so long"

She believes in him, but sooner or later he'll screw up so bad, and she won't be able to let it go anymore (or so he thinks).

"down the road, later on you will hate that I never gave more to you than half of my heart"

and sooner or later, she will hates that she loves him (or so he thinks), because he could never love her fully.

but I can't stop loving you I can't stop loving you I can't stop loving you I can't stop loving you I can't stop loving you with half of my...

But he wants out, because he feels she deserves more than just half of his heart (he's still struggling to get away from his past self), and he doesn't feel right to love her with only half his heart.

"half of my heart's got a real good imagination half of my heart's got you"

Half of him is full of $*** because he was alone and got nothing (imaginary friends), and half of him found her.

"half of my heart is a shot gun wedding to a bride with a paper ring and half of my heart is the part of a man who's never truly loved anything"

Half of him will "marry her on a whim" (like a shotgun that just goes off), even if he only has a paper ring. And the other half of him never learn to love.

    Everyone's missed the point:

I can't keep loving you (can't keep loving you) Oh, with half of my heart

He can only love her with his WHOLE heart - half (the rational half) will no longer do. It's all or nothing.

Listen to the way it's sung.

    My Interpretation

My interpretation is that he's in love with a girl , who's bad for him . "Half of my heart's got a right mind to tell you , That I CAN'T keep loving you . "

I think the meaning behind "Half of my Heart" is that he hasn't ever fully loved anyone or anything. And he feels that he can only give half of his heart to her, nd he keeps fighting himself to whether really giving himself to her or just half. I think that especially with the "half of my heart is a shotgun wedding to a bride with a paper ring" is a clear explaination that he knows she deserve soo much more than he's putting in, and she deserves more than a "shotgun wedding" which is what he's giving her.

"half of my heart's got a right mind to tell you that half of my heart won't do".. He wants to let her know that what he give isn't good enouugh for her, but he can't because he actually does love her

I feel like John Mayer's song deals with his heart being completely split and he cannot figure out how to deal with the situation. One part of his heart is saying he wants to always be with this girl but the other part of his heart cannot get over his past. The begining of the song most likely explain how he was innocent and carefree with past relationships. These past relationships, he perhaps would always put himself first and never really cared about the other person. Then, this girl came into his life and shook it up and for the first time in his entire life, he knows what it feels like to be in love with someone. From my personal stance, I feel like he cannot love this girl entirely because she or someone from his past badly hurt him before. Now, he has forgiven her or the previous girl for her wrongs to him and the current girl and him are trying to get back together. He knows he still loves her but the feelings are not as strong as before. This causes him to question if he really does love her or if he will never actually be able to deal with all the hurt this girl/ his past has caused him. He hopes that in time, he will fully love her again but currently, he is waiting for it and the wait to find out if your suppose to be with someone your entire life or your suppose to just let this person go and move on, is the hardest wait in the world. This is just my personal interpretation of the song. It may not be what John Mayer thought when he wrote this. It is just what I am currently going through.

John's and Taylor's voice work really well together. The blend is very subtle.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
