"Cherry Baby" as written by Michael Lee Smith, Richie Ranno, Joe Dube, Brendan Jr. Harkin and Pieter Sweval....
I've been trying for a long, long time
Just to capture you inside a rhyme
And to keep you here inside with me
Till they say that I can be set free.

Oh, don't you know
I'm never gonna ever let you go,
'Cause you're so sweet, I've got to have you, Cherry,
Cherry baby,
Cherry,
Cherry, oh yeah,
Cherry, Cherry baby,
Cherry, Cherry, oh.

When the master key has locked the gate
I lay down my weary head and wait.
My dreams fly across the endless miles,
Then I see your precious eyes a while.

And oh, can't you see
You're never gonna get away from me,
'Cause you're so sweet, I've got to have you, Cherry,
Cherry baby,
Cherry,
Cherry, oh yeah,
Cherry, Cherry baby,
Cherry, Cherry, oh.

Till they say that I am free and clear,
This old heart of mine will keep you near.
I just pray you won't forget me here,
'Cause you're my soul, my pretty little Cherry,
Cherry baby,
Cherry,
Cherry, oh yeah,
Cherry, Cherry baby,
Cherry, Cherry, oh.

General CommentYeah, I'm probably the only person on this site that even remembers this song. But it's stood the test of time. It's from the POV of a guy in prison who misses his girlfriend and uses the thought of her to keep his spirits up until his release.

My friends and I didn't want to sing "Cherry" because why would a girl sing to a girl? (OK, it was in the 70s, give me a break.) So we sang "Jerry" instead of "Cherry."

Anyway, if you've never heard this song, take a listen, it's a pretty good rocker.
