Shake it out, shake it out
God, I need another round, another round, another round
Another I could feel it now
I felt the Lord in my father's house
And I can see, I can see
Standing we were seventeen, make it clean
Are you the living ghost of what I need?
Are you gonna get the best of me?
We will see

'Cause I'm done being done with the funerals, at least for now
Are you tired of being alone? Are you tired of being alone?

Shake it out, shake it out
Tired of another and another
Wasn't really what I wanted, so we bled it out
Over the floor of my neighbor's house
And I could see, I could see
God, I've never seen a thing so complete
I am the living ghost of what you need
I am everything eternally, God, just speak

'Cause I'm done being done with the funerals, at least for now
Are you tired of being alone? Are you tired of being alone?

So speak to me

Oh god, you gotta shake it out, shake it out (shake it)
You gotta take it out, take it down (take it out)
I gotta come around, I need it now more than I ever have
Oh god you gotta shake it out, shake it out
You gotta break it down, break it out (break it)
You've gotta come around, I feel it now more than I ever have

I felt the Lord begin
To peel off all my skin
And I felt the weight within
Reveal a bigger mess
That you can't fix

I swear, I swear I'll go
Lead me into my home
Don't stop, don't ever go
I swear you'll never know
You'll never know

Oh god you gotta shake it out, shake it out
You gotta break it down, break it out

This song is so great, and so powerful. The ending has the most force of any song I have heard in a while.

As for the meaning, Its definitely about religion, and has three parts. The first part is about the things he has done in his life and how he is trying to reach out to the lord again after losing touch. When it says "I felt the lord in my fathers house" it shows that he had so much faith as a young kid, but has become corrupted and has drifted away from the lord.

In the second part he has a revelation "we bled it out/ over the floor of the neighbors house... I've never seen a thing so complete." This causes him to begin to come back around to God and thinks he can cure all his pain and problems.

The third part during the slow section, he see's how the lord can take away your sins "I felt the lord begin/ to peel off all my skin." However, after he has done this he realizes his problems are deeper than just the problems in his life, but are actually problems within himself that only he can fix "reveal the bigger mess/ that you cant fix."

Many of Andy's songs deal with his religious upbringing, but I feel like in this song he really takes it head on and that takes a great deal of maturity. Absolutely love this song.

    Lyric Correction

(This isn't an Interpretation it's the lyrics from the pull-out of the LP copied word for word (even the same spacing, yes i'm that pedantic))

Shake it out god i need another and another and another (and another) i could feel it now how i felt the lord in my father in my house

i can see i can see standing we we're seventeen make it clean

are you the living ghost of what i need? are you going to get the best of me?

    We will see

Cause i'm done being done with a funeral, at least for now are you tired of being alone are you tired of being alone

shake it out tired of another and another wasn't really what i wanted so we bled it out on the floor of my neighbor's house

i could see god i've never seen something so complete i am the living ghost of what you need i am everything eternally god just speak

cause i'm done being done with a funeral at least for now are you tired of being alone? are you tired of being alone?

    so speak to me

oh god you've got to shake it out you've got to take it out, take it down you've got to come around i feel it now more than i ever have

i felt the lord begin to peel off all my skin and felt the weight within reveal a bigger mess than you can fix

i think he says, "I felt the Lord in my father's house."

and i think the funeral part's wrong, he says, "At least for now" at the end not, "I will face it now"

"I felt the Lord again to peel off all my skin."

"I swear, I swear I'll go Lead me into my home Don't stop, don't ever go I swear you'll never know."

also, I don't know if the word 'brake' is correct, it's either its homonymn 'break' or 'bring',

Necronic They aren't Christians, they aren't trying to reel you in. Andy was raised as a Christian, So he writes about his upbringing and things he has gone through in his life. Calm down homie, he aint trying to reel you in to anything.

I think the line "I felt the Lord begin, to peel off all my skin" might be kind of a reference to a segment in the CS Lewis book The Voyage of the Dawn treader... one of the characters is turned into a dragon and Aslan (God/the lord) comes and begins top peel off layers of his scales until he is a boy again... I just always thought the lyrics might be inspired by that...

As I posted in a reply above to magicgas this song to me is a person who clearly is struggling with addiction and is looking for salvation at the same time. Chill out you high horse christians and stop being so pessimistic you agnostics YOURE BOTH RIGHT.

Shake it out god i need another and another and another (and another) i could feel it now how i felt the lord in my father in my house

Starting with the first line Shake it out can be referring to going through withdrawals and having the common symptom of shaking or looking for salvation.

God i need another and another..... open your eyes kids he obviously has an addiction and is going through a period of intense craving

I could feel it now how i felt the lord in my fathers house... He most likely lived with his father when he was younger and was brought up with an intense christian believe instilled upon him. His craving for the addiction is now as intense as his belief in the lord was when he was surrounded with all the teachings of the christian life as a child.

i can see i can see standing we we're seventeen make it clean are you the living ghost of what i need? are you going to get the best of me? We will see

I believe he has just seen someone from his past he used to share his addiction with or group of buddies who probably used to shoot up with (i like to think he saw this person/persons at a funereal due to the later lyrics) and seeing this person/persons reminds him of the first time they started experimenting with the addiction (we were seventeen) and he wants to forget those memories (make it clean) and those memories are haunting him and reminding him of how he wants to use again (are you the living ghost of what I need) and he wonders if one day this addiction will take his life too (are you going to get the best of me? we will see)

for my rendition of the next part see my reply to magicgas on page 1

i think it's "are you gonna get the best of me" instead of "are you giving me the best of me"

this song is legit. definitely one of my favorites on the album so far.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation.
