"Stay With Me (By The Sea)" as written by Rick James and Bishop P. Burrell....
[Chorus]
La, la, la,
La, la, la
La, la, la
Stay with me
La, la, la
La, la, la
La, la, la
Stay with me

Stay with me, my dear
Walk with me, oh be near
It's not as late as it seems, no no
So why'd you take your love away from me

[Chorus]

In the morning light, orange shades of white
Your the only one to try,
So what's the meaning of saying goodbye

[Chorus]

Hold my hand, my dear
Treat me like your my ever loving woman
Am I the only one you see
So why'd you take your love away from me

[Chorus:Repeat x2]

My InterpretationI've always loved this song because it has such a sound to it that only Al Green can do, but I can't describe it. It's got a peaceful warm and dreamy feel, just like you would feel if you were at the beach and by the sea. The lyrics always interested me because they're so unique from your typical love song.

The first verse makes you think that he's singing about being with his sweetheart and they're just out for a late night stroll. You hear him say that it's not that late and asking her to stay, but then it becomes apparent he doesn't mean for the night. The woman has left him and he's saying it's not too late, we can still try, so why'd you leave me?
The next verse with John Legend basically says "you're the only who tries, the only one like you, so how could you say goodbye?"
The third verse says the same thing, asking her to stay and also is saying "am I the only one you see or is there someone else?"

Beautiful song. It takes a new spin on the typical love song in the smooth, laid-back, but still very emotional style of Al Green and John Legend. Instead of a strong, loud sad vocal, it's kind of calm, almost dazed like their entranced by their love.
