"Devil On My Shoulder" as written by Jon Gallant, Aaron Solowoniuk, Ian D'sa and Ben Kowalewicz....
As I get closer, my dreams get farther
I climb the ladder, but you kick it over
Thirsty for water, you give me vinegar
When I drink your medicine, it just makes me sicker

I dug a hole so deep
I'm gonna drown in my mistakes
Can't even sell my soul
'Cause it ain't worth shit to take

I've got the devil on my shoulder, over and over
And I just can't sink any lower, lower and lower
The hounds of hell are getting closer, closer and closer
I've got the devil on my shoulder, over and over

Follow the rainbow, my lucky omen
There ain't no pot of gold, just copper tokens
I found the key to life, but the lock was broken
All my accomplishments are best left unspoken

I dug a hole so deep
I'm gonna drown in my mistakes
Can't even sell my soul
'Cause it ain't worth shit to take

I've got the devil on my shoulder, over and over
And I just can't sink any lower, lower and lower
The hounds of hell are getting closer, closer and closer
I've got the devil on my shoulder, over and over

My horror story is nearly over
I said I'm sorry, but I was sober
I beg for mercy from my infernal friend
The one that drives the nails into my coffin

I've got the devil on my shoulder
I've got the devil on my shoulder

I've got the devil on my shoulder, over and over
And I just can't sink any lower, lower and lower
They've come to take me, take me over, over and over
I've got the devil on my shoulder, over and over

General CommentThe lyrics are a little off. This is what I hear.

"As I get closer, my dreams get farther
I climb that ladder, but you kick it over
Thirsty for water, you give me vinegar
When I drink your medicine, it just makes me sicker

I dug a hole so deep
I'm gonna drown in my mistakes
    can't even sell my soul
'Cause it ain't worth shit to take

I got the devil on my shoulder (over and over)
And I just can't sink any lower (lower and lower)
The hounds of hell are getting closer (closer and closer)
I got the devil on my shoulder (over and over)

Follow the rainbow, my lucky omen
There ain't no pot of gold, just copper tokens
I found the key to life, the lock was broken
All my accomplishments, are best left unspoken

I dug a hole so deep

I got the devil on my shoulder

I got the devil on my shoulder (over and over)
And I just can't sink any lower (lower and lower)
They come to take me, take me over (closer and closer)
I got the devil on my shoulder (over and over)"

Great opening track. It seems to be about digging your own grave and having the whole world turn on you.

General CommentRock bottom is where this person is. So low down, in fact, that hell is the next stop. This is a song about someone whose luck has run out. About someone who’s made so many mistakes, there’s no way to reverse them. Why? Because he has the Devil on his shoulder. Nothing is going right — he can’t even sell his soul because of all the abuse it’s taken. The lines “Follow the rainbow, my lucky omen, there ain’t no pot of gold, just copper tokens” means that even though we have this fantastical idea of how wonderful life should be, at the end of everything, it’s all just an illusion. Life isn’t that great; when we think we’re getting gold, we get copper tokens.

General CommentI think that guy who is the main person was a very bad man. But he now realizes that he was`n right and did a lot negative deeds. Now he tries to change himself to good, to correct his mistakes as much as he can. But people know him like a bad man and no one believes that he may be good guy.

That`s what I think. I may be wrong.

General CommentThe "devil on the shoulder" is the opposite counterpart of the angel who offers wise and virtuous advice. He's saying that he can't sell his soul for success because it's already forfeit due to his wickness and stupidity. Probably not intended to be taken literally.

General CommentI agree with LineSinker and Letmein. I believe it's about having a vice, obsessing over it, letting it kill you.
