Well all this time I guess I wished that I had the time to say goodbye
She's a ruby and I liked red, until I disappeared a little too well.

I guess I should have kissed her
that one night when she was leaning in
I guess I should a lot of things, huh?

But Maurine, I can't come to your party, 'cause I think that I'm dead

All through the tunnel, and onto the tram
I wonder what it's like when your hands stop this shaking
It's as cloudy as I dreamt it would be
It's as empty as I thought it would be

I hope it goes well
I hope your dad's good
I hope you've got presents
That make you pretty happy
I hope you grow old and
I hope that you find somebody nice

But Maurine, I can't come to your party, 'cause I think that I'm dead

General CommentI have some different ideas about the lyrics.
    -disappeared not disappear it
-that one night, instead of i wont deny it
-on to the track, instead of tram

My InterpretationThis song is about a sudden unexpected end to a relationship. From what I can tell it was the "singer" who broke up with "Maurine". He is headed somewhere while contemplating the breakup, what he wishes he had done, what he regrets, what he might have done to have been able to make it work out when he knows in the end that it did have to happen because it would not have worked out in the end. You can posses all the regrets and all the what ifs you want, but it wont change a thing. His hand is shaking because of the anxiety, and "it" is life separated from Maurine. Its as "cloudy", depressing, sad, and "empty" as he believed it would be.
He's not bitter or angry about the breakup, he still cares about her, hence his depression over this issue. He hopes she is ok, or will come to realize it was for the best later on and that she moves on and becomes happy once again. But he can't attend her party, because hes emotionally detached himself from her as much as he can possibly do to keep himself from being eaten up by "guilt", remorse, and sadness.
This song sums up the paradox of having to hurt the ones you love because you love them.

General CommentDefinitely my favourite song on the new album. About a break-up of some sort. He's got bitter feelings, but he still wants the best for her.

I'm not sure about the second line, or the formatting.

General Commenti guess its intended as emotionally dead, but the line "But Maurine, I can't come to your party, 'cause I think that I'm dead" totally reminds me of a bad trip. I mean is there any other time someone can think that they're dead.
