in the sight of eight lakes
in the sound of screaming girls
in the sight of black black black
in the view of ground ground ground
ground ground ground
below, below me
beneath, beneath me
below, below me
beneath, beneath me

in the sight of red red red
red blood
in the thought of getting caught
caught under the water
under the water
below, below it
beneath, beneath it
below, below it
beneath, beneath it

and with his fingers he would push
and with his fingers he would pull
and with his fingers he would push
to come back up
and with his fingers he would push
and with his fingers he would pull
and with his fingers he would push
to come back up...

below, below it
beneath, beneath it
below, below it
beneath, beneath it

    General CommentGorgeous song.
I always heard "eight legs" at the beginning...? I was thinking the 'screaming girls' were scared of a spider? Could be wrong.

My InterpretationSeems to be about a man drowning. He is wounded (probably by a shark?), other swimmers are screaming. The song starts with first person impressions, then switches to an objective perspective, maybe indicating that the protagonist is dying. He struggles to come up again, but there seems to be no chance of being saved. Strong contrast between soothing, romantic music and some very, very dark lyrics. Very moving.

My InterpretationI personally see this as a personal struggle, and a more metaphor of drowning than literal. The person is struggling with something in their life, and they are "drowning" in life.

Poetically drowning is used to create imagery for depression / stress in life. That is the stresses of life become too much and it feels like you are drowning (that is you thrash around hopelessly but can do little to stay afloat).

The title (and repetition of "below it") suggests that they are trying to escape the stress by getting underneath it, but to do so would require them to give in totally and drown. Yet they keep fighting / thrashing about to stop themselves from being totally submerged!
