Slept by her and I dreamt of bees --
That's all I can remember --
Just that I was stung a thousand times,
So I woke, I dressed, and I left her.

Oh, American, I walked out the door
To the wind and hillsides winding
I kissed her through that windowpane,
Then left the bees and she behind me.

Rise up, m'boy! No more mistakes!
Pick the new road you'll be heading!
Pack your one gun and leave tonight --
It's a promise now; go on out and get it.

Started out; come back around.
Took to looking, guess what got found?

Come by a man who was chopping trees;
I probably shouldn'ta asked it.
Said, "Whatcha gonna do with all that wood?"
He said, "My business is in caskets." Good Lord!

So I wrapped myself in the next person I saw;
Said, "Lover, take me places."
Said back, "Boy, you are a pretty one,
But you might just die a'chasing."

O Spirits, woe is woeful me!
I'll do whatever's required:
I'll slit a throat; I'll kiss a throat
For a little bit of finding.

Started out; come back around.
Took to looking, guess what got found?

So I walked back and forth, but mostly straight,
Till the house came back around
Stood in the yard for forty more days,
Then went inside and lay me down.

So I slept by her and I dreamt of bees,
Stinging me one by one
But with each sting, I glowed a bit more;
Them bees was fillin me up with honey!

Woke and I kissed my precious love;
A cool breeze in the pine
I said, "Love, you're like an angel ship,"
Then I laid back and died.

I started out; come back around.
Took to looking, guess what got found?

I started out; I come back around.
I took to looking, guess what got found?

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
