If my life was a distance
What mile would you claim?
And if my life was a story
How I wish you would explain, all this

If you leave me I will go down with the ship
Your love breaks me right in two
There's still a part of me that just won't quit

If your voice was a siren
With nothing left to sing
Oh down below broken skylines
I'm still here listening, to this

If you leave me I will go down with the ship
Your love breaks me right in two
But there's still a part of me that just won't quit

I've been here undone,
For the longest time
I'm your restless child over state lines
So don't you let me down
For once in your life

We're all growing up faster than our skin
Looking for our fathers
So where have you been?
Don't you let us down
For once in your life
For once in your life

If you leave me I will go down with the ship
Your love breaks me right in two
But there's still a part of me that just won't quit

If you leave me I will go down with the ship
Your love breaks me right in two
But there's still a part of me that just won't quit

    My Opinion

This song kept me happy until the new album was released. Probably in my top 5 Damnwells songs. Great vocals and the added layers on the album version are amazing.

    General Comment

I grew up with a father who worked two states away, and only came home on weekends. He eventually left my mom and then several years later my family altogether. It's been almost five years since I last saw him, and every word of this song tells the story of his presence in my life right now.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
