Between you and me
I think it's pretty sad
How we're singing the same song
Humming the same songs
Oh wah oh, oh wah oh oh
Don't you see what this meant to me

These are the hard times here to inspire
Convenient how it always works out this way
The message you'll find, heart on a wire
It'll make you say, it'll make you say

"Oh my God, there must be something left to write
The two best words to sum up my whole life."

This is the story of our lives
From the road we sit and watch it pass by
Is this the best use of my time?
Don't worry my love, everything's alright
I'd give just about anything to know she's waiting for me
An eye for an eye, a dream for a dream

The life that I am force fed
I'm scared of the road ahead
Have you listened to a word I've said?
The big picture is my dream is dead

These are the hard times here to inspire
Convenient how it always works out this way
The message you'll find, heart on a wire
Don't you see what this meant

Between you and me
I think it's pretty sad
How we're singing the same song
Humming the same songs
Oh wah oh, oh wah oh oh
Don't you see what this meant to me

(I'd give just about anything to know she's waiting for me)
(An eye for an eye, a dream for a dream)

It'll make you say "oh God, why was I wrong?
I missed all the meaning while it was spelled out all along."

"Between you and me I think its pretty sad how we're singing the same songs, humming the same songs." -The two people have alot in common and think of alot of the same things even if they aren't together.

"Don't you see what this means to me?" -He's in love with her.

"This is the story of our lives from the road we sit and watch it pass by. Is this the best use of my time? Don't worry my love everything's alright. I'd give just about anything to know shes waiting for me an eye for an eye a dream for a dream" -He thinks that time is wasted without her with him, and wonders if she still cares for him.

"The Life that i am force fed I'm scared of he road ahead have you listen to a word i've sad? the big picture is my dream is dead" -He is afraid of whether or not she will be with him in the future, and he hopes she will still be there.

i think that's what it is about too,

"This is the story of our lives from the road we sit and watch it pass by." -he is on the road touring all the time

"Is this the best use of my time?" -is he sure he really wants to live this way, being away from her for so long

"Don't worry my love everything's alright. I'd give just about anything to know shes waiting for me" -everything will be ok, and he hopes she is waiting and thinking about him as much as he is her.

"Between you and me I think its pretty sad how we're singing the same songs, humming the same songs." -they are the same and are thinking about the same things and each other even when they are not together.

that's what i got out of it.

personally i think it is about his relationship with God and the environment around him. "Between you and me, I think it's pretty sad that were singing the same songs, humming the same songs." - So many people just think that they are Christians because they go to church and follow all the other Christians, branch out and be your own person in Christ

"Don't you see what this means to me?" - He's telling people to stop messing with religion and stop playing games with God because it means so much to him and to Him.

"Oh my god there must be something left to write. The two best words to sum up my whole life." - He is crying out to God, there must be something else not so cliche and not so overused to say to You to let you know i love You, and the two words are love and sacrifice."

"This is the story of our lives from the road we sit and watch it pass by. Is this the best use of my time? Don't worry my love everything's alright.I'd give just about anything to know shes waiting for me." - He is kinda comparing his beliefs to something that just passes by slowly without being able to do anything about it. He is questioning why he is a Christian in the first place and if it really is true that Jesus loves him. He just hopes that one day God will be waiting for him in Heaven to say "Well done, good and faithful servant."

"It will make you say o God why was i wrong i missed all the meaning when it was spelled out all along." - This is from the perspective of other people who don't believe in God, they are saying, How could I have missed Him and His love when it was right in front of my face this whole time?

Only because I'm picky and want things my way. A better formation of the lyrics with minor changes.

Between you and me, I think its pretty sad how we're singing the same songs, humming the same songs.

    Oh Woah Oh Woah

Don't you see what this means to me?

I would have to agree with the original idea posted that it is about a long distance relationship (in a sense) and that people seem to read too much into it. I don't think that he is still with the girl who is the antecedent for "she". I'm thinking they probably broke up because he's always gone. "I think it's pretty sad how we're singing the same songs, humming the same songs." This is referring to that well-known cliche that loved ones are united by certain things, like "we're both looking at the same moon right now", for example. "I'd do anything to know she's waiting for me." She's not waiting for him but he feels like she should be because they're supposed to be together. I agree with the rest of the arguments though, such as "From the road we sit and watch it pass by" being that they are on tour and such.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.

Midnight
Ed Sheeran
“Midnight” is a song about finding a love that is so true that it provides a calming feeling through every storm. Ed Sheeran reflects on his good fortunes in landing someone with such peace and support and speaks of not fearing the dark days because he knows they’ll all end in the safety nets of her arms. “Well, good morning there / What a way to start the day / With everything laid bare,” Ed Sheeran sings in the first verse, enthusiastic to be waking up beside his woman. He apologizes for missing her calls in the second verse and promises to return them because for him, speaking to her is the most important thing. “Well, I get lost inside my head / In this chaos, you’re my calm / And I will find my feet again / ‘Cause еven the worst days of my life will always еnd / At midnight in your arms,” sings Ed Sheeran in the chorus, revelling in his good luck.
